You can get it up to even 5 on water, what motherboard and cpu cooler do you have, or actually can you post full spec.

Not with air no, Intel cancelled the launch of the 4GHz Pentium because it spent so much time throttling it couldn't match the 3.8GHz version. Probably doable with water though.

hi ubersonic
if you say its not possible with air what overclock would be possible? ive left a list of my full system above i would be grateful for any feedback cheers

Sadly the Pentium D's ran very very hot so overclocking is rather limited. In all honesty I think it would be a better option to replace the Pentium D with a Core2 era CPU as that board can take any Core2 duo/quad and they run cooler and clock better (in addition to performing better at the same speed). You can pick up a used Pentium Dual core E5200 for £5 now and that will clock to 3GHz easily with the stock cooler and run rings round the Pentium D due to it's newer architecture.

Here's the motherboard's CPU list: http://www.gigabyte.com/support-downloads/cpu-support-popup.aspx?pid=2288

thank for the help

so that processor runs @ 2.60 so are you sayin get one at that and then overclock to 3.0??
sorry like i said im new to this
what would be the top upgrade i could get for my socket? or is that one it ?

Looking at that CPU list again I think I was looking at the wrong column it's the E2220 not the E5200 that the board will take but that would clock to 3GHz too. It will have a 12x multiplier and a 200MHz bus if I remember right so simply changing the bus to 250 will make it 3GHz (shouldn't need anything else doing).

From the list I think the best CPU for your board would be the Q6600, which has four cores and people have managed to get great overclocks from (in the 3-4 range).

Yeah your best off running the latest BIOS, the compatibility list says F7/F10 for the Q6600 depending on chip revision but it's best to just run the latest one available.

This is what I'd suggest too, the last one on this board went for £28.

According to the CPU support list you will need to have BIOS F7 or F10 flashed (depending on stepping). See what is on there already (CPU-Z can sometimes tell you, otherwise look for F# on the POST screen after the motherboard model). If it's earlier than F10 I'd say flash it with the newest BIOS, which is F12).

Flash it now so it works when you've got the new CPU in, otherwise it might not start up at all.

ok so ive got the bios f12 on my usb but when i go to q-flash in my bios it says no drive detected an if i loads win 7 it tells me its not compatable with my version of window any help on were i go next????

any body any help on this? do i need to run an older windows to flash my bios? then reinstall win7 ? or is there some way around it?

Maybe its needs to be Fat32 formatted or is there a usb legacy option in bios.
