PENTIUM G620

ok thanks, have posted a price check thread in the members market as i really dont know what any of my bits are worth.

Remember, that none of the Sandy Bridge motherboards do 16X/16X Crossfire like your motherboard does and this will be reserved for socket 2011. You will also end with a lower number of SATA3.0 and USB3.0 ports too.

TBH,I don't know why you just can't wait a month or two to see how Bulldozer pans out. Your rig is suddenly not going to get slower. Remember, even the original Athlon 64 was delayed too:

my CF will be the next thing to go anyways. im sure 1 decent card will be a better option. as for the USB 3.0 and SATA 3, i only have 2 USB sockets currently, the Z68-EXTREME4 has 2 rears and 2 front usb 3.0, so thats double. admittidly there are 4 less SATA 3 ports, but i only run SATA 2 HDDs and i cant see that changing, atleast not to more than 4 SATA 3 drives.
i understand waiting for BD, but i am ready to buy now. i know i might regret it, but i still aim to build a little media pc around AMDs new chips later in the year.

TBH,once you move to a single card setup the CPU is going to be less of a bottleneck. Bulldozer is the first major AMD architectural change for a performance CPU since the Athlon 64.

My advice is to buy the graphics card first and see where you go from there.

Locked multipliers and overclocking the BCLK isn't possible any more (beyond like 3%).

That is why the X4 955BE can be a better choice than the i3-2100 - it will outperform the Sandy Bridge chip in multithreaded applications by quite a bit if it's overclocked.

oh right, thats ok, just so i know and dont go playing and wondering why it wont do anything.
i like to have a spare cpu and psu just incase something does go wrong so i can easily diagnose the problem, so having a G620 isnt going to be a bad thing, as when i get the 2500k/2600k chip i will have my test chip.

like i said in a couple of your other threads, just keep your set up, ditch all that ram and get a 955 for 80quid !!!my set up with 4gb of ram runs anygame with no stuttering on virtually max settings at 60 fps,on a 1920x1080 screen, honest its your cheapest option

but i dont want to spend £80 on something that should have already been replaced with the BD chips, it just seems a waste. i can afford the 2500k atleast once i sell my other parts, which will overall give me a better system surely?

well if you have the money to spend go for it, im just offering you a cheap option with your motherboard, also maybe sell your 2 cards and get just one good card like a nvidia 570 or a 480 it wont cost you anything

yeh im thinking once i get the base sorted then the gfx will be the next upgrade.
i appreciate the fact that people think the AM3 chip would be the cheaper alternative, i just feel its throwing money and a 'should have been' replaced system.

can someone explain what the G850 'embedded options' would be?

other than that and the multi being higher so a higher clock, is there any difference in these 3 chips (G620, G840, G850)?

What's the point in selling, side stepping then upgrading? It will cost you more to do so, as the resale on lower end will be near zero, it's more cost effective to save more, sell your current and go straight to high end sandy bridge.

Save longer bro

but i would be buying a G620 anyways (or a cheap 1155 chip) as i like to have spare working parts incase i get an issue, so i would not be reselling the G620 when i got the 25/600k i would just be boxing it up and sticking it to the side.

Still not sure I see the logic here, CPU's never go wrong, they only go wrong if the owner bends pins or physically breaks them, once there in the socket and running, something else will fail 1st.

Granted that's becoming a little less the case with the new low nm technology but still you would only be stupid to pump these new chips full of volts, stick inside the specs and you will be fine.

No need to have a spare cpu on the side  you may as well keep a new mainboard on the side as well, thats more likely to go wrong.
