People keep using my email address

I had one bloke using my live account for some interesting(disturbing) sign ups. Had many requests to my phone asking if I was trying to reset my password.

Evidently after not receiving his he decided to have a friend email my account and ask why he wasn't getting his emails(why would you ever do that ). Upon replying that I owned the account his response was that he didn't know you had to register an account and thought he could just sign into hotmail by typing his name. Also requested that I give him the account :D.

There's some real "special" people out there.

I have a few addresses including one which is just my firstname_@.

I get this on my FirstNameLastName hotmail account, but it is strange that your outlook.com account has an underscore, would be difficult to type that by accident (unless that doesn't matter, like dots in the name).

Perhaps someone you know is having a laugh and winding you up?

I have had this for years with one of my email addresses... Best part is it seems the person that keeps using my address ha the same name and he is some kind of influential person with music companies. I have quite well known people emailing me (including emails asking if I would be able to be available for a radio 1 take over) the person also deals with who attends festival lineups and other such things lol.

I have mailed them a few times to mention it, but nothing has changed, I also get some tracks sent to me un mastered and they wonder how they get leaked (I have never leaked one but if they are sending to me... Who else is getting them?!)

When I get on my computer I will screen shot some as they are rather interesting, in particular hearing about new artists and ideas from the BBC etc.

We have an email account that hasn't been used for ages and it still receives a considerable amount of carp and some of it not spam. Anything that gets through the spam filters gets marked as that.

I'm well aware of that as a result of receiving the e-mails, what I don't seem to understand is why people keep on getting their own e-mail address wrong

They're idiots, and the people sending them emails are idiots?!

Actually built up a canny amusing email friendship with the guy now... The majority of his misdirected email is as a result of the sender being an idiot, rather than him.

I have my surname @ gmail.com and get quite a bit of misdirected mail. There are a few people in particular who I get a lot for, and so I just forward it on and we have a bit of a joke about it!

I created my main active Hotmail account in the late 90s, using a .com e-mail address. For the last ~10 years, I regularly get sent stuff that I'm sure is meant for the same name with a .co.uk Hotmail adress.

Recently, I apparently upgraded my O2 mobile account... Oh no I didn't!

I had one guy register my address albeit with a typo... he missed the first letter of the first name

so I've got, for example: [email protected] he had [email protected]

firstly he gives out the e-mail address on his website and to various customers etc.. I get random mails for his business, then he contacts me and asks that I forward the mails on (which I do - being nice)...

.... he thanks me and says that he'll do likewise and forward on any mails he gets that are intended for me..... WTF???? He's not likely to get any mails intended for me - instead of deleting the stupid e-mail address now he's realised his mistake he carries on using it! He now gives out his correct but ridiculous address: oe.bloggs... and people see it, think it is a typo and helpfully correct it to joe.bloggs... meaning I still get mail intended for his business. Unfortunately even when he mails people from that address they press reply then, seeing what they think is an error, they correct the return address to mine!

I have this all the time, I have [email protected] and all kinds of things get registered to me, banks etc. I find it really annoying when you can't reply to these companies and I often resort to Twitter to get removed.

Quite glad I noticed this thread. I've had the same thing for the past while now. Some Spansih person uses mine for Facebook, an American for Paypal and an Indian for a raft of clothing websites.

Tried resetting the facebook password, but the security checks wants me to enter their Birthday, Paypal wants to call the number on their profile and the Indian sites are just terrible to nagivate. I don't use facebook, is there an email to report this activity to and they can remove it?

If you've ever had to deal with mail servers then you've probably been asked if you can retrieve emails that have been sent to an entirely different domain than the one that a company uses. We had someone with the .co.uk domain get thousands of pounds of materials printed with the .com of that domain and ask us if we can just redirect the emails for them. People have no idea how email delivery and domains work, so it's not a huge stretch to understand why they also don't really have a clue what their email address is.

I get loads from something called AsdaDating delivered to my spam folder on [email protected] but upon looking it appears that the site doesn't exist so I can't do anythng to get my address removed from their mailing list.

Does anyone know of a way to simply block the sender on gmail?

that is interesting - I've got a [email protected] account with a common first name and common last name...

Same here. I received an order confirmation for an iPhone on O2 contract (I'm Orange/EE). I enquired about it at the nearest O2 store (Stafford), and turned out that it was a genuine mistake. Someone in London with the same name as me typo'd his Gmail so that it was the same as mine, so it was me who got the confirmation not him.

Go to the email, on the right click on the drop-down arrow. Select "block <sender>"
