Perc 5i cards

I have two of these cards running on a three x16 PCIe board right now, They don't seem to allow spanning arrays across cards, at least I couldn't see how to do it. I am just expanding an array from six 1TBs to eight, it has taken 1 day so far, but no problems as long as it completes ok, lot of data already on there.

yeh once you get the ports filled up it really takes ages, when i moved from 6 to 8 1tb's it took about 36-40hrs to complete the migration.

nervous times when you have 4.5tb on the array :p

Wow, mine has 4.5 TB on the array too, wonder if we have the same stuff? lol. It is at about 37% now, but as long as it keeps going no worries.

I do have it all backed up on the home server, though am keen to dissassemble that after I get the new one working with a Promise EX16350. It get really expensive to keep adding external 5 bay cases with port multipliers, so rebuilding it using Vista and in a new Lian li case, should be good, if I can get the Promise card to work.

I've just finished migrating my array from 5 to 6 1TB disks in RAID5, had some problems mid way with a couple of disks dropping out of the logical array for some unknown reason. One dropped out whilst performing the migration, but it continued on and finished expanding, then i had two drop out midway through the rebuild back up to 6 disks

Managed to reimport them as foreign and continue, but i've had some corruption in the mft - some folders i just couldn't open anymore. ran a scandisk and logged the results (which lets me know what isn't there any more) luckily i've not lost very much at all, and of that the only stuff that I can't replace was a folder with a few holiday photos on. I was scared to death that i'd lost my documents folder but it's safe.

Just wish I knew what it was, all the disks are showing up fine in the raid manager, no read errors etc.
