Is anyone running a Dell Perc 5/i SAS card under Win 7 64bit?

I've got the card installed OK, the PC boots, the drives connected are detected by the card BIOS and Windows sees the card. However it's flagged with an exclamation mark in Device Manager with an error 10 - device cannot start.

There don't seem to be any updated drivers out there that I can find.

Any ideas?

Server pulls on non server edition windows don't work great unfortunately. I had a Perc 3 or 4 (can't remember now...) in my desktop a while back and couldn't get it to run in XP. Ran in linux like a dream though.

Another thing to try is to grab the drivers direct from LSI since Perc5/i are just rebranded LSI megraid cards

Also have the problem with my quad port PCIe x4 Intel NIC (dell branded), does not work in Win7 x64 and the 2008 drivers refuse to install.

OK, now I'm annoyed.

Spent the whole of yesterday trying to get this card working under Win7 in a test machine with no success. So just for the heck of it I stuck it into my main machine and hey presto, works first time! Typical....

Just need to get another set of fanout cables and I'm away :)

Had to cover the pins to get the test board to post with all 8Gb of RAM installed.

I've been reading that thread too but it's going to take a while, it was over 500 pages when I last looked!

Works fine for me.

Remember to:

1/ Cover the pins.
2/ Install the small little fan that they recommend in that thread as it can get hot.

Bit of a phaff, but it has worked fine for me, without a single issue on Windows 7 64 bit, and 8 hds in a raid 5 array for over a year.

PS I haven't updated the drivers etc. So whatever drivers were available a year ago work fine.

That LSi Megaraid thing rings a bell. Might have used the drivers from that?

Hold on... Just checked driver details for the Perc 5i card for you in control panel.

It shows the driver as

Driver Provider: Dell
Driver Date: 22/09/2009
Driver Version: 4.5.0.64
Digital Signer: Microsoft Windows Hardware Compatibility Publisher

When I click on driver details its:

Provider: LSI Corporation
File Version: 4.5.0.64 built by: WinDDK

Yep. That look like the megaraid driver to me

Details on how to do it are here.

I can remember reading that thread for about two days when I did this!

Same, card ran out of the box on win7 64bit. Running my second raid now (retired the card for a while but decided it's back in).

I ended up going a bit overboard with the cooling on mine (zalman flowers + 120mm side intake :o) but it's all nice and stable.

I've made use of the LSI mega raid utility "under fire" with the card too and had zero issues. Added a drive to my raid 5 and after 28 nervous hours (!) it all looks to have sync'd up fine. You can only add drives in the software :)
