I've read that flies perception of time differs from us. They see everything in slow motion, now if we can harness this awesomeness (perception of time) and it could be applied in any technology, what do you think would happen?

"Max Payne" comes into mind :p
Super Soldiers that can see and dodge bullets.

I haven't been smoking anything btw just so you know.

Couldn't be done, you'd have to rewire a human for a faster nervous system. Doesn't matter how quick the machine is if your brain and nervous are too slow.

You're perceiving time slower not reacting faster, so basically it would be soldiers suffering from lag and dying before they even see the enemy.

That may be true, but if time can be perceived to be a lot slower, surely if we see the trigger being pulled we could move out of the way and make it miss by even just an inch or two.

I'm running out of idea's now.. but another application other than biological one's is maybe a machine that could reverse time or maybe skip time all together :o

But but the time you've processed watching the trigger pull the bullet wil lalready be three feet behind your brain.

watch a slow mo replay at the same speed as the normal replay which ends first :p

But if they see everything the same as us (speed, etc.) then why does slow motion have any connection to it?

it doesn't, they're just simpler than us, they see far less detail and process it much much less and have simpler systems so react faster.

But it's not really an improvement, they don't see or act in slow mo they just do things quicker at the expense of any reasoning/detail.

That's why they can't see a window but you can.

They perceive time slower than us... Say a second for us feels like a minute for them.. so same exact events are happening in that single second but flies are seeing it slower than us, which explains why they are very difficult to catch.

Ever played Max Payne? It should explain it quite clearly :D
Loved that game.

Okay, I'm tired so more confused. :p

it's not, it's simply the difference between observation and reaction.

Human

Sees thing> processes image ponders what the thing is why it's coming at him and where he should move > dodges

Fly

Sees blurry mass coming at him (or more likley feels it as they feel air currents more)> dodges.

Same reason your reflexes (which just go through your spine not your brain) are quicker than your concious actions, there's simply less steps involved.

To be fair, Cow, out of Cow and Chicken had a problem with perception of time.

She was stuck on the roof of her sexually confused parents for half an hour, but due to her problems, believed that the time spent on the roof was more like a couple of weeks.

This resulted in the death of a helicopter pilot, and his accompanying 'eye in the sky' traffic reporter.

I don't think Time Perception is a power we should consider lightly.

Time does slow down for us as we perceive it, anyone who has been in very dangerous (Life Threatening) situations will tell you, it's something to do with your 'Mind' (Conciousness) being quite slow compared to our brains and not having really evolved from our most ancient Ancestors, when our 'Minds' (Conciousness) sense extreme danger and overload, our 'Brains' (Sub-Conciousness) takes over with our Survival Instinct and it appears to as time slowing down to try and help us out of the bad situation.

Pigeons do the same. Ever wondered why they move out the way of a moving car at the last second? It's because to them the car is moving a lot slower they see at a different frame per second. A black and white film to them is like a still image, slowly changing. Not a smooth movement like our eyes perceive.
