Perfect 27" Gaming Monitor to pair with my new RTX 2070 Super?

Hi all,

I've been really struggling to decide on a new 27" monitor to pair with my new build.

As per title I have a 3600x with an RTX 2070 Super and my old Asus VG278H monitor isn't cutting it. In fact due to the lack of DVI out on recent GPU's I haven't even managed to get the right DisplayPort -> DVI-D cable for the 120hz refresh rate yet.

I'm looking for the right monitor primarily for FPS Gaming (COD / Overwatch / Battlefield etc etc )

As proper 4k fps gaming is a stretch for pretty much all GPU's at the moment I'm really struggling to decide between QHD or IPS / 4k (with a reasonable refresh and response time)..

The current offer on Dell S2719DGF at £350 seems like a bit of a steal at the moment, but with a budget of up to £650/£700 am I making the right decision? If I go that way I'll probs use the Dell and ASUS, then replace the ASUS next year when new panels come out (LG nano?) ..

I'm not massive fan of curved and don't see any massive benefit in UW although haven't really done a mass of research. Any advice appreciated.

High fps 3840x2160 will likely be stretching still for many years.
While GPU competition should heat up, in year next-gen consoles will no doubt start making game graphics more demanding.
So likely better to plan staying on at 2560x1440 for longer.
In fact even high refresh rate 3840x2160 monitors are in their infancy.

Agree about curved being just marketing foolery.
Have used 30" for 5½ years and can't see how marketroid's arse bending it would make it better.
Also ultra wides are really ultra low screens, because they don't improve vertical field of fiew coverage at all, while consuming more desk space.

As for panels VA has the way best contrast and black value of LCDs.
But that black comes at expense of horizontal gamma shift called as "black crush":
Basically dark shades want to collapse same black from straight angle.
Also some grey transition response times are very challenging for it.

IPS can't match that black, but has the best colour/gamma stability of LCDs and better and more consistent response time than VA.
LG's new panel is in pre-order state now for quite good price.

(VAs have quite a lot slower highest transition time)

Thanks @EsaT ..

Pretty much confirms my research. I'm comfortable the Dell will be a big upgrade to what I have and at £350 I actually feel like Im getting a bargain. It'll tide me over for quite a while and be a brilliant 2nd screen at some stage

£350 isn't bargain from TN's lack of vertical viewing angle, which makes even the crappiest CRT look perfect in viewing angles.
It's literally such nonexistent that when viewed straight from center darker shades collapse toward black on top of the screen, while in lower edge lighter shades brighten.
Part between 13-17 seconds shows lack of vertical viewing angle perfectly and at 46-47 seconds you can see how actual image darkens from top when viewed straight from center:

Here's how IPS performs:

And VA:

Though neither can they match CRT fully.
Monitor tech hasn't really gone forward any in the last 15 years and is still behind CRTs in many things, because of inherent flaws of LCD.

Anyway there are IPS/VA panel 144Hz 2560x1440 monitors starting around £350 and at £400 level there's rush of them.
Actually up to 32" size.
Though most gaming monitors use those fashion panels bend twisted by weight of all BS from arse of marketroids.

Haha! Interesting thread content for me as I have had a Dell S2716DG for about 3 and a half years now and seriously considering the LG 27GL850-B at the moment :)

i got the Eizo with my 2070S and 5700XT cards. most roundups don’t include it because the cost is eye watering but you pay for the QA and tank-like build quality.

1440p, Adaptive sync, IPS and the 2070S runs the screen at about 60fps native and 100fps in 1080p. You will need to step down from Ultra to hit 100fps native with that card in quite a few titles.

I won’t be upgrading until i can get an OLED.

The £350 144hz dells? I got one for the spare room but it’s for poor people. Just kidding, i just find it hard to use a TN panel.

Go for 1440p 100hz+ IPS. The gigabyte is half the price of the Eizo and well worth the extra over the Dell TN.
