Perfect Blinds - Fitting around vents and handles?

I will give the washing up liquid a go. I have ordered some sample brackets from an online blinds retailer to see if it slots in.

The knife was fairly slim so I thought should have gone in. The windows were only fitted recently so hopefully the fairly liquid helps as try again in the evening.
 
I had a really tough time trying to fit these to our patio doors and it turned out they had been manufactured / cut wrong. Got new ones sent out and they fitted like a glove.
 
The inserts arrived today. Will give it a go but not sure they look any better than the knife I tried with. Will need to get the fairy out and hopefully not busy the rubber!
