Perfect NAS for media streaming with Full 1080p Video Transcoding built in.

Excellent. Thanks.

Will these program's enable the pc to be detectable via wifi on my TV?

as long as they are both connected to your router should be picked up mine shows up in my sources on my tv as well as the plex app that i installed on the tv put before i got a smart tv i use to use my ps3 player to play things sometimes wifi can stutter with play back so i always tried to keep them on wired but wifi can play things just depends on the wifi connected try them programes out i do belive twonky (simple to use and configure) is 30 trial before you have to purchase licence but would make a nice test session just to see how things go they might be better free programes about i just don`t know them of hand think there is a list of programes in one of the other threads for good free utilities

Hello mate, thanks for your help.

Its a Sony KDL-55W955B. And as far as I can see it doesn't have a Plex app?
The TV is currently connected wirelessly but I intend to use a homeplug very soon.

Which is better Twonk or Plex?

Twonky was easier to setup but not as meny features as plex they are both differnt programes.

So as a test setup i would install twonky setup the webinterface and give it a whirl if it works then most nas setup out there that has media support will no doubt work with your tv on mine i can see it through the source list usally i have hdmi 1, hdmi ,2 twonky etc when the server is running.

Iam sure it has a 30day trial from the download site. should be enough to test out your netwok though.

And if theres better ones out there im sure someone wil suggest that one to you.

Wait... a NAS doubling as a media player... but without a HDMI port? Am I understanding that correctly?

ASUSTOR provide HDMI on all of their high-end devices, meaning you can literally link it directly to a HDTV. Seems a very odd omission from Synology not to provide this on a multimedia NAS. :(

I imagine many (if not most) people at this end of the market will already have a dedicated media player device connected to their TV/home theatre system and would prefer to have the NAS located with their router in a central location.

Ok so the problem for me is that my router is not located next to the TV which I want to view from the NAS.

And connected to the above, I have tried Plex and the like via homeplugs, and Im still getting stuttering on some videos (not sure due to transcoding or due to the network).

What would be the best way around this?

I.e. Router + PC on one side of the house, main TV on the other side and currently streaming. Best to perhaps buy a NAS and stick it next to the TV?

Noticed in the PLEX forums that the DSx14's don't allow PMS to be installed becuase of the Armada CPU: link to compatible PMS NAS units here.

Where as even if it can't support transcoding the DS415Play is at least supported for PMS.

Yeah its a bit frustrating, i use WD media units for mine so its not a major problem, i bought a Roku to test and it really needs plex to get the best out of it.
