Hi guys,

a bit of a n00b question...

planning ahead, I think the SSD + standard SATA HDD config should provide best performance with the following setup:

SSD - boot HDD with Win 7 64bit
partition 1: temp for all Win junk, scratch etc.
partition 2: system

HDD - single partition with all software, games, other stuff

Am I correct in my assumptions?
Secondly, would really a 60GB SSD be sufficient for a Win7 and the temp stuff (hdd's are suppose to work best when up to 51% full, then they slow down...)?

lol this is near identital to another post i just did. Yes I and several others will vouch for this being a very efficient way in terms of cost v speed.

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...60&subcat=1668 - although any 60gb ish drive ll do.

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...60&subcat=1665 - If you play games or use large programmes, make a 150gb the first partition and put steam and game installs on that. (it will run faster compared to the rest of the disk.) Then have a second partition that you put all your storage in.

Win7 can get to 15gb plus on a machine that has been running for a while but 60 should be more than enough. You do not need to make a partition for the temp files and junk in the install just whack it all on the ssd more parttions will just complicate stuff.

You might have to clean crap every 6 months to make sure you dont have TOO much stuff you arent using on it, but in total after 18 months and not really trying to limit the size my entire os and programmes is 22gb. If you keep tens of gb of saves for any program maybe you will need to relocate that directory and a full steam folder wont fit but both those cant be sorted.
