Perpetual Punctures

Same route?

Its quiet possible if theres glass, thorns etc somewhere on your route its why I switched to Marathon plus tyres when I commuted by bike; it would be more unusual for you to find a road / track that is maintained and regularly swept.

Did you not find anything at all stuck in the tyre on any of the occasions because that does sound a little odd, its possible you have missed something.

Its when the inner tube gets caught between the rim and the tyre when you fit it and would normally leave a bigger hole than a pin hole puncture.

Depends on your tyre size but maybe buy a more puncture resistant tyre such as Marathon plus (you wont be putting them on without a tyre lever) or get one of those puncture protection inserts that you put inside the tyre they do help a bit but not as good as getting Marathon plus tyres.

There's also that slime stuff that you can put in your tyres as well but I've never tried it.

Do you have a decent pump with gauge to check tyre pressure?
Different routes

Tyre checked and is clean inside.

Tyre size is 27.5 x 1.75/2.10 which is hard to buy off the shelf here but will check availability for Marathon

yep got a pump with a gauge.

Well, I carried on repairing / punctures getting new tubes and in the end just bought a new good quality tyre and all is good now.

The tyre that came with the bike must have been not v good quality and had just reached a tipping point - though nothing obvious from looking at it. It was a bog standard trail tyre and still had plenty of tread on it.

I'd ridden 800km on it which, to me, doen't sound very much.

Even known good brands like Schwalbe offer different puncture protection levels which is determined by the materials used and construction methods, the amount of tread won't make much difference in that regard unless they are badly worn.

Some people might not want to spend as much or might prefer a tyre that’s lighter or is foldable so they can pack a spare so they will pick a tyre with those characteristics over a tyre with the highest rated puncture protection; there’s a lot to choose from and this is just one brand other people might like Continental Gatorskins, Kenda K-Guard etc.

I ride a hybrid and its been a long time since I've had tyres as wide as yours so when you said you were running 1.75" / 2" there wasn't a specific tyre I could recommend, if you are happy with your new ones you might want to post which brand / model you picked and what you were using before.
