Perseids Meteor Shower tonight

Myself and a mate are going from the north West over to Ennerdale water as that looks like the nearest dark place with some foreground interest.

Give the D810 and 14-24 2.8 a damn good workout

It depends on lens and iso capabilities of your camera but full frame at 14mm @2.8 you should be able to get 30sec exposures without star trails. And just keep upping the iso until you get too much noise.

I'll be pushing 6400 to 12800

30 seconds will surely leave trails. with a 2.8 lens you should be able to get quicker exposures than that, bump the iso up to an acceptable level and good to go.

I wouldn't just go by that site , any where outside of the towns and city's in the open is going to be very dark ! and will let you capture the event.

oh yeah for the meteor shower tonight im going to a local park 5-10 mins away, nice and dark there away from any light pollution. for the milky way i'd have to travel to peterborough or so to see that.

Wouldn't bother going past 3200 in very dark conditions. From experience with my D810 it gets extremely noisy. Also agree with the above, you will get star trails evident from ~20s, though it's not all that noticeable if you downsize the images.

Might head to Putney Heath with mine and a 35mm 1.8. Can't be bothered lugging my tripod around, reckon my gorillapod will suffice? Worth using the onboard intervalometer?

EDIT - my interval timer is greyed out on my Nikon. Any ideas why? The time and date are set correctly.

EDIT - never mind, might help attaching the lens (thought you could access the menu without).
