Perseids Meteor Shower tonight

Spent about an hour around 11pm keeping half an eye on the skies while doing work in the conservatory and saw a grand total of 1 (which was quite a nice one) - might have been the odd one I missed/were too faint to see without paying full attention.

I got lucky after taking an image which I though had a few meteor trails in it but were actually just artificial trails e.g. satellites.

Had another go and got the image below which has both a meteor and satellite showing the difference between how the two look.

Perseid Meteor Shower

The Meteor starts dim, brightens then dims again, whereas at the bottom of the image what is most likely a satellite is just a steady dim trail.

I kind of have an interest now in taking some night shots somewhere truly dark as opposed tot he above which was just down behind my house.

30 seconds will surely leave trails. with a 2.8 lens you should be able to get quicker exposures than that, bump the iso up to an acceptable level and good to go.

Dar trails are a function of focal length,,and 14mm is damn wide on FF.
