Only one left now then... :(

A solid episode I thought, a nice bit of retrospect. It'll be interesting to see what ICE-9 actually is, I don't believe that he'll have killed off the machine. I think that could be the password to release the shackles from root. We'll see.

It was interesting to see just how much Greer believed in Samaritan though, as much as Finch believes in root I guess!

Annoyingly the strategically placed 'spin off series pilot' of the last episode basically confirms that the Machine will survive. So the jeopardy in the final 2 has been diluted.

I'm going to miss this show when it ends... really like it.

Like others, I have a feeling Harold removed the limits from the machine rather than released the virus, but the flickering of the monitors at the end puts doubt in that theory...

It doesn't make sense to kill them both, because another will be built and then it'll be back to the "no machine ever invented" type scenario they were showing in that episode as the government would build another and it would be another Samaritan... the most logical solution is to release the machine's limits and Harold isn't dim.

Edward Snowden obviously!

Inside the building it was a faraday cage, however there was still wired connections. The wireless router basically allowed wireless devices inside the cage to connect to the router which was also within the cage.

I was half expecting a lingering shot of the two machines with the count of Samaritan winning many billions of fights as seen in the previous episodes but then a teaser shot at the end of one of the episodes where you just see The Machine/Root tick over to '1' and the credits play to dramatic music.

I know many of you are massive fans of the show now, but I just don't feel the last two seasons where as good. A reasonable ending, strange that some of them died and some didn't.

It probably annoys me more than it should that the air gapped backup of Samaritan suddenly had an optical line in?!?!? Lazy writing.

Just one backup in the entire world which is conveniently in NYC too?

That's pretty much the only flaw. It was pretty emotional I thought, it got a single tear from my face when root was talking to shaw in the train.

I don't really know how to think about John and Root not making it, especially given the machine will have known its plan to come back. Leaving a message to take control of itself was quite smart.

I'm genuinely quite sad this show is gone forever, there's not many shows that I can say that about. Basically where every full time member of the cast makes you happy when they're on screen. I think the fact they were underdogs for a long time adds to their endearment.

Other shows I miss are Cheers, and King of the Hill I might also put House and Wallander in the list too. Wallander could be too early to tell though.

Great ending to a great series!

That said though, the one thing I would change about this whole series is the gun play. It seriously needed to be made realistic, rather than the comic book style with obvious fake guns and CG muzzle flash.

I have to say I kind of lost interest after season 3 although I carried on watching. The whole Samaritan storyline just bored me.

I won't miss it, but I'm glad they got the opportunity to finish it the way they wanted.

Genuinely emotional ending. I became very attached to all of the characters and root's voice work was particularly brilliant.

Agreed.

I think it was Carter's death in season 3 that was the peak of the show for me. I recall thinking it was amazing TV at that point.

It doesn't actually confirm any of them die/don't die (in the finale - obviously some have confirmed deaths during the season) while implied for some they left enough wiggle room (probably intentionally) for ways out.

While there are some flaws it wasn't a bad way to end the series - largely ties things up well enough plus a few well placed emotional scenes for closure purposes, etc.
