Have to say I'd struggle to find someone on the list myself. Certainly wouldn't be a friend.

If you move around lot it is difficult

You know they dont check this stuff at all right lol?

I've done it before fudged a bit though changed aircraft system fitter to aircraft systems engineer :p

My neighbour just came round today and asked me to sign his passport application, I've done plenty over the years

I did a Romanians citizenship application last week

I am quite lucky in that my wife is a teacher and all her teacher friends are willing to sign these things for me. Before then I actually knew the local plod who always did it for me.

I get kind of screwed on these things (in a general sense of needing id) - most of my billing even is paperless these days - even work has moved wage slips to an online system and no longer has the ability to print them properly at the premises I work - so if I need those for something there is like a 2 week delay getting them printed centrally and sent out.

Aside from my Dentist I rarely see anyone else professionally.

Going through the list posted before - aside from Dentist and 1-2 of the company director, etc. most of which are family which isn't always allowed I don't know anyone, that I'm close enough acquainted with to ask, in most of those categories.

So when you see something like that asking you such a thing, it stings.

Sorry, I'm just a bit surprised, I genuinely didn't think there would be many people (if at all) who didn't know at least someone from the list - I mean how do you have a passport or driving license? Presumably you don't if you fit that description of not having anyone to ask. I threw in the comment as I thought it was highly unlikely to apply to anyone, it wasn't meant to have a go at anyone.

When I first got mine I wasn't long out of school and still knew the head teacher fairly well as well - these days they've long moved on - though for renewals it can be a bit tricky.

Chiropodist seems an odd one to be singled out, though I do know one personally :p

I think I could use about 15 professions off that list

Snap.
When first got mine I was still with the family GP etc

Luckily the missus is a teacher and the bosses wife is in the Police so I'm not short of people to sign things. I didn't however realise I could just get my boss to do it for me..

bit different if you're doing it for friends/colleagues though

Clients as well, though I suppose that's because the only clients I take on, or keep, are people I like.

And even though i'll have done two in a fortnight, it's been a few months since I did the last one. It's hardly onerous and not something that I think, yes, that's what I did my training for, for charging someone £25 to sign to say yes I know you. I see it more as just a civil thing to do.

I've never had to do it for driving licence, so don't think you need one for that. I don't have a passport so that hasn't been an issue.

It's solved anyway now as I phoned the boss and told him I was struggling so he has found someone to sign it. Still, my point wasn't about me not being able to find someone but by how old fashioned/archaic the practice is considering how the world has moved on a fair bit since these things were common practice.
