Personal trainer - Am I being unreasonable?

Did you pay him direct even though it was booked through the company? Not sure how it works but does he subcontract or was he an employee?

Certainly not unreasonable on your part! You've paid for a service that can no longer be supplied. I think you've been quite generous for not expecting the whole money back for the last two sessions. He'll probably either just hope you disappear. Have you tried to phone him?

So you've gone from nothing to threatening legal action. Over reaction and a flipping half, call the guy stop dealing with things through text failing that make some time to pop down to the place he's at now and have a chat.

Yeah just call the dude. If he's always looking for new business he will answer.
Roids cost a lot of money though so good luck getting it back

Don't be silly Pure gym PTs wouldn't use roids they'd actually have some muscle then and scare the clients away. As a total side note they don't, cheaper than most peoples weekly take away bill.

Haha i've never got this. If I wanted a PT I would want it to be someone with a physique I could aspire to reach, an out of shape/skinny PT makes me think they don't really know what they are doing.

It's the same reason a lot of people won't step foot in the free weight section of the gym to an outsider it's intimidating but 9 times out of 10 they're actually missing out on the most friendly knowledgable part of the place.

Echo the replies about text I hope you have attempted to call him. Number of people that will only email and text for everything is scary I have a friend like that will wait weeks for a reply to an email instead of picking up the phone!

I recently started working out again after a 4-5 year hiatus, and as i've moved to a 'proper' gym rather than a leisure centre I wanted some sessions with a PT to show me correct form in using some of the new machines, and some of the more complex exercises such as deadlifts, squats, etc.

I found a PT via the Pure Gym website who looked spot on, and I spoke with him and booked myself in for 4 sessions at a cost of £35 each - paid upfront (mistake from me).

First 2 sessions were great, and he sent me a workout plan for the non-PT gym days ive been doing, however on the 13th Sept I received the following:

I dont want to go to a different gym as the whole reason for doing this was to learn the equipment in my gym for the days i dont have a PT - so I replied with:

No reply.. So 4 days later, another text:

No reply... So today (3 days later), I've sent him yet another text:

I'm really annoyed that because of no fault of my own, I am now out of pocket £70. If he doesnt reply, I am going to make a formal complaint to Pure Gym as I found and booked him via their company. I'd honestly be willing to take this guy to the small claims court knowing full well i'd lose £25 of the £70 for fees, just to make a point.

What does everyone think here? Am i being unreasonable?

I despise PTs. At my gym there is a creepy little guy who looks terminally ill who makes people do the most pointless exercises like putting a plate on their back and making them lie on the floor while he awkwardly lies next to them. I also saw him cause an injury to a client by making him do heavy rows with bad form and not telling him to not round his back. The guy ended up hurting his back and he had to sit on the floor since it seemed he was going to faint from the pain. The skinny little PT ran off and got him some Berocca. I have also seen this guy exercising in a 1 piece skin-tight leotard thing that was clearly for a woman, which was just bizarre.

There is also a fat PT who also likes wasting people's money by telling them to run on a treadmill for 10 mins while he stands next to them. Can't fathom how people can waste money on these guys. I would only pay a proper strength coach to analyse my squats/bench/deadlifts and suggest improvements.

Call the gym and tell them you want a refund since I assume you paid them and they just give him a cut, so they owe you the money.

Yeah you went from flash to bang very quickly, phone him and see what's going on.

I agree you need some money back but threatening legal action over a text message probably isn't the most endearing way to get him to refund you.

I wouldn't have mentioned legal action so soon, you're definitely right in expecting some money back but he's probably looked at that and rolled his eyes and being a douche, will just make more of an effort to ignore you now

99% of personal trainers are scum who got their qualification off the back of a cereal box, which for some bizarre reason gives them this feeling of superiority. But there are some good ones out there, very good and they aren't difficult to pick out from the bad ones either

Hate Loddon Valley in Lower Early, I got treated like a penny by the PT's there. Constantly on their phone, talking to their mates at the gym. All while occasionally muttering "good, keep it up"...

Never, ever again. Really put me off going to gyms and I've never been back to one since. First time I tried to really take control of my health and made to feel small and pathetic.

Yeah your all correct - i should've called, I was wanting an 'evidence' trail however to show that i had tried numerous times to contact him and he was aware of my intentions. I'll give him a call tomorrow if i dont hear back - its just very disappointing.

I've contacted Pure Gym also - i didnt pay via them I paid him directly, but i found him via their website and he was an employee of theirs so hoping they'll do something out of the kindness of their hearts... :)

On the plus side, i'm not disheartened from training and i'm ploughing on.
