Personalised number plates and snobbery?

Indeed, hence why I said I wouldn't buy it unless I had a load of money.

To people who know me though its quite good, but to the general joe public it just looks like a normal 05 plate. I think it looks cool though because it spells my name out very well and is quite cheap (comparatively) which is rare for a number plate really.
 
Each time the DVLA release a new series, they hike the price. So the £250 ones are the first ones they did, then the £399 ones are the next low (V, W and X IIRC) then £499 for the Y plates and the earlier ones.. now the F's are here they are even more.

Funny that, the reason I got K40 is due to the fact, at the time I bought it (which may be the key here) single digit plates cost roughly double.

Also, my Sister has "K40" on her own plate so I thought I'd copy her.

Anyway, like so much crap on here, does it really matter? :D

I assume the prices alter with time? anyway, glad to see you decided to opt for one, make sure you let me know when some numpty inevitibly tells you the cars "tidy for an S reg" - if my experiences are anything to go by, they will soon enough.

I was looking for one and LNNN JAP was £245 but LNN JAP was like £390.

From elsewhere, sure. That's not how the DVLA pricing policy works.

For example, both K4 XWX and K40 XWX are £245 inc fees, as they have always been. I suspect you simply recall incorrectly, or perhaps K4 XXX was not available when you went to buy :)

My memory is not quite that bad (yet!) and I do recall a steep price difference, this was about 3 - 4 years ago mind, so I wonder if the pricing has changed?

Fwiw, I bought mine from the DVLA. :)
 
ive been looking for plates like A*07 web or something like that

cant get "old style" plates with A* WEB.

but then 245 could be spent somewhere else.
 
a number 1 is always going to be more expensive

for example

X1 VXR (where x is a random letter) is about £980

E6 VXR is about £245.
 
My mam's M7 XXX was the same price as my M70 XXX and my dad's J77 XXX... so the double digit pricing is no different than single with regards to 7's... might be different for 1's however...

I bought my plate cause the parents had theirs, and I summed up that £250 for a plate I own for the rest of my life was worth the money. Whatever car i get, it doesn't matter about the plate/age whatever, nobody will ever know.
 
I love good private plates! But wouldnt spend loads on one, mine was a birthday present but was only £299 (H20 DJY)

my mate has a thing for them, has his intials on a focus rs, H8 UTD on a orange escort turbo and C8 RST on a lime green fiesta lol.
 
I have 2 and like them.

A H plate on my mondeo because it was the plate off my first car and I have kept it for sentimental reasons, and it only cost me £80 to transfer. I am not a snob and will happily tell anyone its really a 52 plate with 107k on it :o!

I have a Dx COS plate on my sierra as it looks mint - the car is a D plate anyway so its hardly vanity. Its also a good investement. ;)
 
I got a personalised plate late last year. It hides the car's age, and is a bit of fun. Not a big fan of putting your initials on a plate with a random number, but each to their own.
 
I'm not sure i understand the hide the cars age thing

is it so random people you drive past think you have newer car than you actaully do ?
