PES 2010 - "Very Very Good"

After playing the horror show that was the demo the full game will have to be miles better for me to buy it.

I had Pro 5 on the PC (which was awesome), then bought a 360 which came with Pro 6 (which I also thought was awesome). Pro 2008 came along and I thought it was OK but nothing really got better and some things got worse *cough*online*cough*.

I think the only reason I bought Pro 2009 was for the Become A Legend mode, which to be fair was pretty good. Online matches were still a joke even though the Legends mode with 4 people was generally pretty good

This season i've made the switch to FIFA10 and to be honest it dumps on Pro from a great height (IMO). From the core gameplay elements (skill moves, player movement, depth of all the modes) to nice little touches like being able to play in the arena when a match is loading to Football news going along the ticker at the bottom (if you're connected to the net). Konami are really going to play catch up and pull their finger out if they want to take back the footy crown :) don't get me wrong I still like Pro but IMO FIFA has done a sterling job this time around.

From the horses mouth :

The demo code is slightly different to the final version. Improvements have since been made to the ball physics and consequently the game speed has been reduced. Ideally we would have liked to release a version based 100% on final code, but we were making changes right up until the end

Even the vidoes with the claimed to be final build the tempo doesn't look any slower.

So, if you disliked the demo the final code won't have much an improvement to persuade your mind, perhaps.

And, considering your previous version in '09 got absolutely ridiculed why on earth with your new version would you release a demo that is anything other than the final build code ?

Good to see they haven't lost their pre-release propaganda.

The presentation in the PES games has always been utter garbage. The players don't even run properly, it's just one animation repeatedly over and over, not to mention the horrible looking menu's and the fact that all the players look like they've come from a foosball table. It's not all about graphics and presentation though, but I have to say after playing the demo FIFA has now got Pro Evo licked. FIFA's last iteration was a superior game to the last PES game, but as usual the PES crowd will normally slap things before they've even played them, apart from their own game however.

If anybody has ever even watched a game of football then just look at both games and tell me which looks like the more realistic portrayal of football. The argument that FIFA is just a pure arcade game with minor updates every year is no longer a valid argument. PES has gotten worse and FIFA has gotten better. In my opinion PES needs a new engine and a fresh start to their stale franchise.

The Eurogamer review was a little lacking in content tbh, but there's nothing in there that's enough for me to cancel my pre-order. FIFA does look like the better game, but the divide isn't enough for me to go through the rigmorol of re-learning how to play, plus I still don't seem to get excited when I score in FIFA.

I really think PES need to create a whole new engine for their game , rather than the one they are using at the moment, but then they run the risk of losing the core "PES fans" gameplay

It's catch 22 for them, the game IMO sucks , but they can't improve it too radically incase they lose the market of pes gamers they already have

I agree with this. I honestly don't see how PES10 can compete with Fifa 10 this time around.

Just by looking at video comparisons you can see the differences in the games.

You have to doub't if they will change their engine with this generation. They will only change it when the 720 and PS4 are out when the need to start from scratch.

The demo pretty much confirmed what the final code was going to be like.

Again, they can't even get the basic foundation right with the gameplay by slowing down the tempo.

I'm looking forward to this, bit disappointed with FIFA 10, namely its manager mode, which is utter tripe, no depth and buggy as hell. The master league in PES can surely trump that, hope so anyway.

Rubbish. It works fine for me. No bugs that I can think of that have adversely effected my enjoyment of the mode. Why would you class it as 'tripe' exactly?

As for depth, what exactly would you expect to have in a Manager mode?

The frustration for me is that really since the days of PES5/6 there hasn't really been a great version and so hardened PES vets like me are just turning away from the franchise now after many hollow promises year on year.

Its a shame I don't have an xBox or PS3 as I'd have snapped up Fifa 10 by now but from what I read here on the forums, Fifa 10 for the PC is not as good as the console versions as it uses different engines. Not sure if this is 100% true or not but would be a shame if it is as still thinking of buying it for the PC anyway...

It is true. Absolutely don't buy FIFA on PC - it's using the same engine as the ps2 game and it's utter garbage. The ps3 and xbox360 games are totally different and indeed are excellent.

I'm just downloading the online demo of this at the moment. Apparently it is really good, minimal lag and improved over the single player demo.

Like others have mentioned I just find FIFA so joyless. Bought it and haven't picked up PES for a week to give it a fair crack of the whip. I just can't get excited by it though

Thanks buddy... I shall avoid that then and looks like another year of PES on the PC then. Just hope this latest version 2010 isn't as bad as I am fearing...
