Anyone tried out the PES 2013 demo yet?

After several games I must say I'm rather liking it. I've been converted to Fifa for the past few years but PES looks like it could finally be a worthy challenger again if they can iron out a few issues before the final release.

Shooting is too sensitive for my liking, and it's too easy to rocket the ball over the bar. It's also too easy to blast corner kicks too hard and out of play at the other side of the pitch. However the general feel is much more like PES of old. Fun and responsive.

I have, its really good fun and I like the passing, suits my style of play, but I do have a few gripes, defending is a bit of a chore and the refs are really trigger happy, and the shooting is a little too unrealistic with the amount of power that is behind the shots, a little too sensitive.

It's played the better game of football since 2009 IMO.

This year it looks like it may need to raise its game though.
I'm slightly with you, though not all the way :p.

I thought the decline for Pro Evo started long before 2009, by FIFA 08 they were head and shoulders above Pro Evo. Partly because Pro Evo sucked by then, but also because EA actually produced a genuinely good football game. Every game since I've enjoyed less, to the point that I really struggled to find any fun in FIFA 11 and 12.

In that time I've been going back to Pro Evo. PES 2010 was fine, but a big reason for me playing it was because of my dislike for FIFA. PES 2011/2012 I've bought on release and played to death like I did with the old games, there's no competition for me between them and FIFA, like I said it's not even close. From what I've played of the demo for 2013 it looks like they've stepped it up again and maybe a few more people will give it more than the usual 5 minutes to confirm it's **** as they expected.

I used to be die-hard PES until about 4 years ago. I can't remember which specific game it was, but did Fifa have a proper overhaul one year? After that, PES just seemed so slow that I couldn't play it anymore. I used to really dislike the older Fifa games, but now I love the new ones.

There is still enough love from my part towards PES that I will at least give it a go though

IMO, PES still plays the better football. Dynamic first touch is a good addition, the more technically gifted players like Pirlo feel amazing with the ball.

Goalkeepers and animations are still retarded though.

Quick goal I scored

Absolutely give it a go if you've been a die hard PES fan in the past.

I've been through all this in the consoles thread for the PES 2013, defending the game so much it looks like I'm trying to tell people they're wrong and I'm right which is absolutely not the case. The points I made where specifically towards old Pro Evo fans (though could still apply to newer fans). The thing is, it doesn't actually matter to me if every other person enjoys FIFA more, I'll still play Pro Evo the same way anyway.

However, I know what it's like to see one of your favourite series (or in my case my actual favourite) turn to ****. Playing the game only to confirm it's still no better, I've done it, given up on the series entirely. Then I actually gave the newer games a chance the same way I did when the series was at its strongest, what I found was a game that was very much in line with how I remembered it being. That's the whole point I've been making, people have been asking for Pro Evo to get back to its qualities of the PS2 days, if they actually stop to give the game a real chance, they might just find that it already has, as I did.

Actually shooting is a bit better than I initially thought. After playing a few more games I was hitting far more low shots. I think previously I'd been managing to do lob shots by mistake by holding down LB at the same time as the shoot button.

On torrent if you search PES 2012 DEMO PATCH it unlockes 25 teams. I downloaded it today morning. Worth the download

Thanks for the heads up - PES on the PS2 was my favourite game. Particularly PES1, WE6FE, PES3 and 5. THe "new gen" PESs were horrendous (to varying degree).

I dont believe Konami will make a better football game on the current engine - too many problems with collision detection, physics, animations, too many scripts interfering with your control... You can only polish a turd so much (the engine stayed the same since the abysmal PES2008 shocker).

I always try new PESs every autumn though, will try this one as well -thanks!
