PES 2016 - Another **** "Hybrid"

No.

What you get on PC is the new engine but without the upgraded eye candy, but the game plays identically on PS4 as it does on PC (PES 2015) I am talking about.

Precisely why they are doing this I have no idea, especially since both new consoles are basically PCs.

What really gets to me is console games are originally developed using various toolkits and custom game engines etc on a PC to begin with, the only difference having it on a console is gimped down graphics and running on different frameworks etc, so why on earth and time after time do games get "ported to pc" and usually terribly done.

I can't really get into Fifa, I used to play online several years ago but the cheaters put me off it and so I prefer single player career these days, but since the Ultimate Team seems to be the selling point for a long time the career always feels empty and neglected and never really sees any massive changes. On top of that Fifa gameplay just feels wrong and even though it brought the HD Graphics I still prefer the fluid free motion slick gameplay of Pes but this year I feel like making a stand and buying none of them.

Konami really need to pull themselves together.

I know nothing about coding or games development in general, but there are plenty examples around of game engines that are great on console, giving crap and even unacceptable/unplayable performance on PC. Idtech5 springs immediately to mind (Rage, Wolfenstein) and then there was the travesty which was Batman Arkham Knight.

Despite console games being developed on PCs, obviously a quality PC port still requires time, effort and most importantly, expense. I don't how many copies of PES 2015 got sold for the PC version, but the peak consecutive players on Steam was around the 4K mark. That isn't very much and maybe suggests that around 40K max copies of the PC version of PES 2015 were sold. I am guessing that Konami are adjusting the level of investment they are willing to put into the PC port based on how many copies they are going to SELL. (obviously the amount of pirated copies of PES 2015 installed on PCs will be much much greater). So they develop for the consoles, which is where the money is, and then anything which is easy to port across to the PC such as the AI engine framework, goes in the game, and anything that might cause conflicts or issues which Konami aren't willing to spend time and money resolving, are swept aside, hence the gimped graphics and eye candy of the 'next gen' PC versions of this game.

This is really disappointing. I was looking forward to possibly getting PES this year but now the chances seem slim.

Ya know what, last year I left a 0/10 review for PES 2015 on Metacritic as a protest at the PC version being gimped, and instead I bought FIFA 15.....which was fun at first but after not very long at all, revealed itself to be the shallow lame pish that it is and always has been. So I bought PES 2015 on PC, and ended up having a lot of fun with it. It didn't look as good as the console versions, but it played just as well which is the most important thing.

Yeah I know, when it comes to multi platform games you can usually guess there will be some level of problems on PC.

I just think that regardless of how well a game sells on other consoles, it should still have the same features and graphics at a minimum on on PC that it's counterparts do. Obviously consoles cannot run at the same quality levels as the PC, but for a game like Pes to have lesser quality graphics then the consoles do is a bit of a slap in the face to PC users.

Watched a video earlier that showed 30mins of using master league. Other than changing the way the UI looks and adding a couple of nifty extra features it's still looks mostly unchanged. Transfers also seem to still be rubbish.

It's like they're intentionally keeping certain parts of the game subpar. Now that they have good gameplay on the pitch you'd think they would be pulling out the stops elsewhere to try and take a bigger share of the market.

OK...

I tried the FIFA 15 demo, not feeling it.

I prefer the flow of PES but no way can I support them in their current form.

Then pick up a copy of the free demo of the full game.

I have bought every single PES on PC since PES5 (PES 2008, I took back for a refund....could still do that in them days), and before that, I bought every one on the PS2....

...but this *hybrid* version, which is essentially the barebones PS4/XBone version, without the layers of graphical effects and eye candy put over it, just smacks of damn laziness.

*hybrid* my arse, it is just a version of the game on PC brought up until the point where they ran into the first graphics driver conflictions and weren't willing to spend any money on getting a team of coders to get it all working.

Well that works both ways, I amn't willing to spend any money on their lazy ass port......will be playing it plenty though.....they certainly know how to put a top footie game together.

I'm so glad I stopped caring about Football games a few years ago. PES was always my favorite and it seems like the PC version is rubbish.

Fifa has algorithms built in to make you lose matches.

Pes hasn't been good since pes 6.

football games are a pretty boring stressy grind when you think about it, preset ways of scoring people just grind out wins like that.

I hate fifa now and will never go back to it I also hate it's fanbase of brainwashed addicts and also pity the fools spending real money on packs etc etc etc BEAST FC ! lol
They have even made a new mode this year where you have to pay an entrance fee in coins it's laughable how brainwashed it's players are.

Ultimate team should be like manager mode everyone starts with a basic stadium and budget etc and the more you win the bigger your budget gets and you make transfers ground upgrades for increased coinage etc etc but no they will stick with the real money based systems because kids still rob their mums credit cards for packs.

I am done with it probably until ps5 and xbox two.

lol spot on, fifa 16 has improved but still has the scripted feel.

Unfortunately PES just doesnt offer enough online game modes for me to consider buying again. The offline modes are dull.

Hmm, reading that the PC version didn't release in the US today as planned and is pushed back at the last minute for a day.

On the plus side Bhatti tweeted yesterday that a PC demo is finally coming on 'launch day', whether that's US or EU launch day is anyone's guess though.

Edit - turns out that the consoles are also missing lots of transfers

Well...

Having played both FIFA and PES demos, I am sad.

Neither are a great game.

I think PES has a better "flow" but its presentation is beyond shocking and as a PES stalwart, it is hard for me to say but I think FIFA is closer this year than it has ever been to being a proper football game.

Yes, I very much agree, gameplay over graphics but that is not what I am refering to.

FIFA has the small things right. Away fans in the correct parts of stadia, matchday atmosphere relevant to teams playing.

In PES, spectators do the same movements in "bunches"... it looks durpy and not relevant to the 21st century. Also, the **** banners aroun the pitch.

Also, the stadiums are not relevant to "club" football... every game sounds like a flaming South American cup tie.

At the moment, I am leaning towards FIFA (Not purchased a FIFA game since FIFA Road to World cup 1998).

It all seems like Konami needed the cash so sent out the popular whore to do the dirty work, the problem is, the whore is looking tired and needs to retire, regardless how good her tricks are.

Konami will no doubt say a PC release is not worthwhile, blame pirates... **** them, they screwed me last year... they come back with this.. not enough in my opinion.

Plus, Bhatti is a ****.

IGN give this 9.5, PS4 version... about to play the demo, but for £18 from cdkeys it has to be worth a punt, I can play it in 4k too which is a bonus, but I still want weather effects and water on wet pitches.

EDIT: 2K max resolution in demo...

After Demo:

Biggest criticism is some effects are missing or at least one, which is seeing water coming off the ball as you pass it in wet conditions.

Other than that it plays fantastic, super smooth animation, hyper realistic, great A.I. lovely graphics. It's better then Fifa 15 in every area I managed to try. So, I don't have a PS4, and don't really want one, but have a XB1, that has all the effects but is just 720P... and £35+ I think CDKeys @ £18 is a bargain.

I guess Konami aren't a fan of BT Sport commentary either, going through the fake classic player names to fix them and came across this one "Gay - Owen" :D

Goodness me have you seen the crowd and stewards etc in the tunnel? Looks like PS1 graphics, as if they deliberately gave us poor graphics and textures.

Pes is killing itself off, it has the potential to be a Fifa beater but it keeps hitting the self destruct button on itself.

Someone really hates PC users and Pes PC version, I have read some of the commets from that Adam Bhatti and he really doesn't like us PC gamers does he!
