Have any of you bought pet medication online?

We've just bought some Drontal wormer for our cats from pets at home, 4 tablets for £17. Looking around online I can see you can buy them much cheaper, some sites will even fulfil prescriptions.

I'm reluctant to use these sites at the moment, can they be trusted?

Only a vet can prescribe AFTER they've seen your pet...apparently. The flea stuff I use for my cats is really expensive and vet only...

Yes, but that doesn't answer the OP's question as to what to do *with* that prescription. Yes, Mr Joshua, it's much cheaper (usually) to buy online. UK pharmacies are registered with the appropriate bodies, and are often adjuncts of human pharmacies. You're very safe to order from (a UK) one, but your vet may well charge a couple of pounds for a script to cover their 'costs' (i.e. somewhat make up for the fact they can't charge you massive margins on drugs, and to try to put you off with the extra hassle).

We use petmeds monthly. Far cheaper than buying from the vets.

Just ask your vet for a prescription. They might charge about 7 quid though. However there are some vets that will do it for free.

Our vet said he couldn't believe how cheap the websites actually were and didn't blame us for going elsewhere.

I've used VioVet before, not for prescription stuff, but the flea stuff is about 1/4 the price our vet (and pets at home) charge

I get our cat's spot on flea and wormer from Vet.uk and you can upload a prescription to them as well. They are much cheaper than any local shops and their service is excellent. Their own brand flea spot on is very good as well. We found that Frontline was no longer effective around here so we switched to Effipro which also turned out to be not very effective. We then tried their own brand and the cat's had no more fleas. If you have a cat they are the only place I have been able to find the excellent Catac catnip bags for a reasonable price. Our cats go mad for them.

Likewise, I use VetUK for quite a few things for the cats and dog. I generally buy their flea stuff and have also used their cystaid copy. They're always much cheaper than buying direct from the vet! I'll have to check out the catnip bags.. Crack for cats! :D

Even the ones that will process a script for you require that you send them it. You can get the prescription from the Vet but they usually charge you an admin fee that negates any saving you can make.

A woman brought a very limp duck into a veterinary surgeon. As she laid her pet on the table, the vet pulled out his stethoscope and listened to the bird's chest.

After a moment or two, the vet shook his head and sadly said, "I'm sorry, your duck, Cuddles, has passed away."

The distressed woman wailed, "Are you sure?"

"Yes, I am sure. Your duck is dead," replied the vet..

"How can you be so sure?" she protested.. "I mean you haven't done any testing on him or anything. He might just be in a coma or something."

The vet rolled his eyes, turned around and left the room. He returned a few minutes later with a black Labrador Retriever. As the duck's owner looked on in amazement, the dog stood on his hind legs, put his front paws on the examination table and sniffed the duck from top to bottom. He then looked up at the vet with sad eyes and shook his head.

The vet patted the dog on the head and took it out of the room. A few minutes later he returned with a cat. The cat jumped on the table and also delicately sniffed the bird from head to foot. The cat sat back on its haunches, shook its head, meowed softly and strolled out of the room.

The vet looked at the woman and said, "I'm sorry, but as I said, this is most definitely, 100% certifiably, a dead duck."

The vet turned to his computer terminal, hit a few keys and produced a bill, which he handed to the woman..

The duck's owner, still in shock, took the bill. "$1,500!" she cried,"$1,500 just to tell me my duck is dead!"

The vet shrugged, "I'm sorry. If you had just taken my word for it, the bill would have been $20, but with the Lab Report and the Cat Scan, it's now $1,500."

I use various online pet pharmacies. Works out hugely cheaper even when you pay £10 for the prescription to the vet.

I'm going to look at this next time. Vets are now taking the ****.

Our local one is a joke. The stories I could tell about their behaviour and approach to it all is disgusting.
