Petrol for Mopeds

Haven't read all the other posts. It takes unleaded and has a seperate tank for the 2-stroke oil if it's a 2-stroke engine. Holds about 1 litre of oil which lasts a couple of hundred miles. You can get it in the petrol station next to the other oils. 4 stroke engines just have oil in the normal place like car engines and you just change it when you get a service.

But I also need to know which is the best type of oil I need for it, I've been told its a 4 stroke. So any oil recommendations as I dont have a clue.

Mine had a little red light, the sensor must have been towards the back of the oil tank as I only noticed it getting low under hard braking at first.
Would that not mean the sensor was at the front of the tank? Under breaking the oil will be low at the front surely :)

OK, As it's a four stroke oil will normally only need doing at service time (on a scoot that's normally not that far). You will find it should use very little and servicing should be cheap (nothing more than oil/filter - if it has one! and the odd spark plug - perfect way to learn the basic's as you become more confident and do it yourself).

After you've got over the initial 'wooooo' factor spend five minutes learning where the important parts of your scooter are. Your oil dip stick for starters will need checking every 2-4 weeks, keep an eye on the way it looks (golden=good, black= needs an oil change). Also take note of where the coolant tank is (again it's unlikley to need you to top it up but it takes 5 secconds to visually check it's above min and below max and saves you from cooking your engine. Probably goes without saying but a good pair of gloves with good palm protection are worth it (wear ski gloves only if you enjoy having the synthetic fibers bond with your skin and have to be cut out without anesthetic in the event of an accident).

Check tyre preassure ideally every few weeks till you get to the stage when you can tell just from the way the scoot behaves.

The other major thing I always found on scoots was the zorst's rust like mad. If it starts it's going to need doing with heat resistant paint sooner rather than later as once the rust gets on it's only a matter of time.

After all that enjoy it. I've had to do a few 100+ mile trips on a scooter, they are actually a lot of fun, finding a non motorway route however was not a lot of fun. Oh and get a ******* big lock and chain, it's easy enough to pick up a scooter and run off with it if ti's not tied down!

Thanks for all that info Avalon, that has really helped. :)

Does it also matter which 4 stroke oil you use? Nobody seems to have answered this question.
