Petrol Money..

its only polite to offer some form of reimbursement to show grattitude, doesnt have to be money if you're not skint, just get them some grub or drinks as a thanks.
 
lol put it like this I wouldnt consider wasting my time driving someone a distance if they wasnt even going to pay for my costs to do it. Im not a free taxi service waiting for their whim. if someone is too tight to pay for a fair then they should use public transport. trains arent that bad.

if I was you mate split the costs if she is coming for the same reasons as you. thats what we do when going to london from swansea. Its only fair that way.

if someone asked to borrow £30 quid as a favour you would expect that back, same goes for petrol - it costs end of the day.

I never ask petrol money usually, neither do my mates. Only time we would do is if were going a long way, in which case splitting petrol costs seems only fair. Day to day though, I'm the same. Giving people lifts is just something I expect and what the car is there for :)

What if you had a friend who lived at Land's End and wanted you to pick him up and drive him to John O' Groats for an important reason and he had no other way to get there? ;)

EDIT - with my friends, lifts locally are freebies. Anywhere significant we just pay approximately half with no stress or questions asked. "Tenner do you?", "Yeah, cheers"

I never ask for petrol money, but I've never given a lift to someone who doesn't offer. I car-pool with a guy and we split the cost of it. Only polite in my book.

Same here :). Theres nothing wrong in being polite and offering petrol money. Split the costs of what ever she puts in the tank and your fine :).

I just dont even think about petrol costs, neither do my friends. If we are going somewhere together then we will likely take it in turns to drive "you drove last time mate i'll drive if you want" etc.

Its the hassle of the driving more than the petrol.

i tend to do a lot of driving with mates. driving me and my mate to bristol in 20mins.

but getting any money cos he is skint, but next time we head to a city to go out he will drive or pay the petrol and the night out. just how it works.

when me and el_dazza went to London i paid for petrol he paid for the accommodation.
