Can I get a reasonable one for around that budget?

Also can someone please give me some pointers on some good makes and the things to look out for as have never used a petrol one before.

Also, any maintenance tips?

Many Thanks.

I'd go to a good mower repair shop and pickup a good second hand one.

There's not much too them really, refill with line, clean the filter occasionally, fill with two stroke done deal.

O and if it's a big one you'll want shoulder straps to support it.

Try and a get a heavy duty Honda 4 stroke if you can find one in your budget.

We got an ex hire one from a dealer that was less than a year old and in good nick and came with a 3 month warranty for just over £100 although I think they are well over £200 new.

4 stroke are much smoother and less vibration as well as more powerful.

I notice they do a light weight version now.

We have always had Honda 4 stroke strimmers and they always start first time (and easily) and we give them loads of abuse.

Avoid Ryobi one's. I have a 4 stroke Ryobi and have to keep stopping it to unclog the line reel feeder. It really is a poor design. I have resorted to going back to my 15 year old Flymo electric strimmer.

I had a ryobi 2 stroke and it was rubbish. Spent a bit more and got myself a lower end Stihl. Great strimmer even tho you do get rattled to bits after an hour or so.
