Petty argument

I guess it depends how far you are going on this road trip.

a 20 min drive then ummm no. Anything 1hr+ and then of course you should pay petrol.

Not true as it is a 30 mile round trip and he wants a fiver off each of us (2). I could motorcycle there for the sum of about a quid probably.

Maybe true. Although I, myself am not selfish. I have a few friends who in the past have not paid money when asked to.

get on your bike then if you r too tight to chip in for petrol

I don't usually ask friends for Petrol money unless either I think it's going to cost me a bit to get there, or I know they can afford to throw me a few quid for a long journey.

If someone can't afford it, I don't really mind taking them out of my own pocket.

Though I've never had anyone say no, if they did. I'd probably just take them anyway, but bring it up (as I always do) when I'm drunk.

I used the word petty in the title as that's all it is. I'm obviously going to go in the car haha as it be more fun. Just wanted to see if anybody agreed with my views on it being more an optional 'thank you' sum of money, than compulsory charge.

Well, to be fair to you in that case he is charging twice what the fuel will cost him. If you can ride yourself there anyway why not just do that if you feel he's taking the ****. Someone I used to know charged me £5 to go a couple of miles and I was livid about that considering he demanded it when we were already half way there!

^^ this essentially

if its a short journey to a bar/pub though then generally the passengers should be paying for the driver's non-alcoholic drinks

Depends what car it is, costs me around £13 to £15 a day just in fuel to do 50 miles a day to my office.

I think we gave answered for you mate ;)

Have a good trip.

I think it's pikeyish to ask for petrol money personally. I offer it if it's a longer trip, but I would never ask for it let alone demand it as compulsory.

Did you offer to pay something?

The text I received was. 'I'll pick you up tomorrow, £5 from you and Chris.' Think it was probably the text that aggravated me the most. Just seemed rude and presumptuous that I wouldn't even offer.
