peugeot 308

Disappointing car from Pug yet again, looking Pug's pedigree, they really seem to have lost.No doubt they will sell loads.

Buy a Focus or an Astra.

oh, I see.

Can you elaborate more please. The problems are engine related? ergonomics?

Pug says this car got gold wheel awards etc. :|

Basically they said they kept the engine on to "drive" 200k miles so they prove it reliable etc.

I also think the engine on this has BMW involved .. I am not sure.

Well engines now are lagging way behind the competition, they used to some of the best diesels out there now they simply dont, the car's dynamic are rubbish, they are too soft, handling isnt up there with the class leaders ( they were the class leader with the 306), reliability is poor, and they are expensive for what they are.

That said, go and drive one and see what you think.

Its not the engine thats the problem its the rest of the car.

The only collaberation between Peugeot and BMW is engines in the new Mini.

I see, therefore only if you buy 1.6 petrol turbo which is the one in the mini you get a "BMW" engine.

Well, since is not the engine, ergonomics can only be tested by actually getting inside .. so I ll have a look at it I think :)

No, if you buy the Mini you get a Peugeot engine :)

Given they are not yet available new are you seriously considering spending a 5 figure sum on a new Peugeot? Why?

Top gear (magazine) seem to say that although peugeot would like you to think 308 or golf, the real question is 308 or kia/hyundai and plumping for the korean car.

I have no idea what/how much really :(

Need space, reliable, not "ugly" spaceship like etc.

Dont mind about petrol consumption, just no brake downs (reality apply, is material and will wear off).

whatever you do DO NOT BUY A 308!

i own a 307 and the amount of problems ive had is shocking, the engine hasnt failed to start but everything else is true crap!

Biggest mistake ever!

Im sure I read somewhere that the 308 was significant step forward? I could be wrong however.

Is way sexier than

IMO

It's the massive gob on the Peugeot that looks ugly to me

The Civic is very much a "marmite" thing I think, but I love it :D

I'd avoid the 308 based on (at least) the abysmal reliability/build quality of it's predecessor, the 307. Sure, some people didn't have trouble with theirs, but do a search here and you'll see that just as many people had issues (some serious) as those that had none.

There's no way I'd drop new car money on a manufacturer thats gone through such a bad patch as Peugeot, not at least without waiting to see what problems do arise in the car when it's been on the market for a good few months.

Incidentally, someone in an 04 plate 307 just visited my next door neighbour, and went again. It wasn't making noises that I'd attribute with a 3 year old car :o
