Very much a hot topic in the media at the moment, from what I can gauge Bale is currently the favourite with then either Suarez or RVP coming second so I wondered if we could get a poll going to see who's the popular choice on here? Other potential nominee's could be Mata, Michu & Fellaini who have all had very good seasons as well.

For me Bale shouldn't be anywhere higher than 3rd so if I remove him from the equation and it's between RVP and Suarez I'd probably have to give it to the latter simply due the consistency he's shown up till now whereas RVP has something like only 1 goal in his last 10 appearances.

I suspect Wilshire will win the young player of the year award as well (not that I agree with that either)

It's a funny old game football, all that upset over Torres going, Liverpool bring in Suarez for half the price and I suspect they'd not swap him for the old Torres let alone the waste of space he's become.

Interesting theory and I highly doubt any of them would admit to it but Torres at his peak was arguably the best 'actual' striker in the world

I know that usually British players or media darlings are heavily favoured but I think Suarez will (Deservedly) win. He is the best player in the league and I think is probably pushing for 3rd best player in the world.

Now now let's not get carried away now

Who would you suggest in his place?

Edit :: Your top five in World football, or whatever.

Messi
Ronaldo
Xavi
Iniesta
Falcao

Easiest question ever

EDIT: I'll also say whilst I have no problems in voting for Suarez as the PL player of the season I do feel there are still better players in the league than him who simply just haven't had as good a season. Like I said let's not get carried away.

Aguero managed 30 goals in 48 games last season. Suarez already has 29 in 39 and that's before you take into account the fact that Aguero had the likes of Silva and co creating those for him where as Suarez done most of his work on his own.

edit: 10 assists each too.

*all stats come from wiki so could very well be wrong.

This thread could go south quick if we all start using stats for our favourite players (I dont like the whole appearance stat anyway as it doesn't give an accurate measure as to how many actual minutes the player has played)

The best way of assessing the bigger picture (imo) is to take a look at my 'Best striker in the PL' thread I ran over the summer, assuming the same people voted in both while Suarez is the overwhelming favourite in this thread he only got 6 votes in the summer with 4 other strikers all receiving more than him. If you look somewhere in between the results of this thread and that you'll probably find an accurate assessment of where Suarez is in the grand scheme of things.

Tom you know as well as I do that none of these votes (whether on here or the actual POTY award) count for anything. Unless there's a clear cut winner, where you look stupid to argue against them, you always get supporters voting for their favourite player rather than the one who deserves it.

I agree tribalism can become a factor but would you say the 10 people who have voted for RVP are stupid for doing so? I wouldn't, in fact had I done this thread a month ago I'd of probably voted for RVP myself, fact is though in this last month he's been out of form whereas Suarez hasn't. There's been a lot of United supporters in this thread who have put all rivalries aside I'd like to think the same was done when I did my thread in the summer.

Aguero didn't do anything more than what Suarez has done this season and Suarez has done it without the team Aguero had around him.

Maybe he didn't do anything more but he was better than Suarez last season and that was my point. I believe Aguero is a better player than Suarez, he's obviously not had as good a season this season but overall I think he's better.

It's stupid to give a list of five players who are better than Suarez, in your opinion, without explaining it at all. Simply explaining your rationale would flesh out your argument considerably, and make it worthy of note.

You didn't ask me to explain my choices you asked me to list who is better. As a general rule of thumb I have no time for you the only reason I entertained you this time was because I didn't foresee it taking up too much of my time. I was obviously wrong.

No, not at all. I was more interesting in how many Manchester United players Tom was going to mention :p.

And that's your problem Tummy always fishing ;)

Well now you've cleared up who you support I'll answer your question...

Who else would you suggest? I would much rather have Suarez at my club than Falcao/Xavi/Pirlo/Neymar...

I wouldn't swap either Rooney or RVP for Suarez :)

EDIT: Before that comment instigates an argument with anyone I'm well aware that likewise I doubt Liverpool supporters would swap Suarez for Rooney or RVP or even Messi or Ronaldo :p

You weren't serious? I read the other day that he's got more goals in the league this season than Nani, Young and Valencia combined :p

If he carries on that progression next season he'll be outscoring Messi and Ronaldo combined

Somehow (don't ask me how) Hazard has been short listed for the PFA Player of the Year (and Young player though that's more understandable). Full short list;

PFA Young Player of the Year
Bale
Benteke
Hazard
Lukaku
Welbeck
Wilshere

PFA Player of the Year
Bale
Carrick
Hazard
Mata
Suarez
RVP

Get the **** in Xavick

EDIT: Bale the overriding favourite for both

Michu should definitely be in there, he's gone off the boil a little as the season has gone on (though he's not alone there) but 17 goals IIRC in his debut season for a team like Swansea scoring against all the top sides is an amazing achievement.
