PFA Player of the Year Nominations

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/4903072.stm
Player of the year:
Joe Cole
Steven Gerrard
Thierry Henry
Frank Lampard
Wayne Rooney
John Terry

Young Player of the year:
Darren Bent
Cesc Fabregas
Anton Ferdinand
Aaron Lennon
Cristiano Ronaldo
Wayne Rooney

Bit suprised and disappointed that Momo Sissoko wasn't nominated for young player of the year, particuarly when you consider how much and how well he has played compared with Ferdinand and Lennon.

I'd have Lennon 2nd behind Fabregas. He's the youngest of the lot and has been magnificent.
Not saying he is a bad player but he has barely played, where as Sissoko has started most of Liverpool's games and has arguably been Liverpool's best player this season.

I dont keep track of Liverpools starting 11, but wouldnt it be a tad OTT to say he's started most of the games?

How long has he been out injured now with his eye problem?
He's started 31 games and he came back from his eye injury 3 weeks ago (only out for 4 weeks).

Ah, is that including qualification to the CL, etc? That might be why there's a difference.
No idea, he started 2 of the CL qualifiers, so if your place says he started 29 then its possible.

Yeah gerrard seems like player of the year but i heard bent has got young player as mentioned above.
Well the only place taking bets on Gerrard for POTY has Gerrard at 1/7 (odds on) and Rooney for YPOTY at 2/15 (odds on). Bookies are rarely wrong, most bookies stopped taking bets on Gerrard and Rooney for POTY and YPOTY days back.
... just as i type they have suspended betting on them now

Rooney for the win, I'd be surprised if Gerrard won it. A fantastic player...yes, but this season as a whole...I don't think so.
He will win it and he has been fantastic this year.. no doubt the last 2 months Rooney has been the best player in the league but for me Gerrard deserves it.

Gerrard seems the bookies favourite now & at this late stage that usually means he'll win it. Don't really know why though as he's had an average season at best to be honest. Terry on the other hand has been consistently brilliant.
Average season? He was player of the month for December and January IIRC. Can't remember Terry winning it once. (may be wrong though)

i cant understand why sissoko didn't get a nomination for young player of the year. He is only 20 and has been immense in his first season in the Prem.

I am unsure about Gerrard winning it. I have watched him in every game for Liverpool this season and he has been nowhere near the level of last season for us- possibly because he has had to play out wide.
Totally agree with you about Sissoko.
As for Gerrard 19 goals from RM, yea he's been terrible

Eh? What player of the month award are you on about?
Oops i was wrong he has only won it once in December (was sure he won it in January as well).. its the PFA Fans Player of the month.

The Baz87 award , never heard of it?
he won the Baz87 award every month. Jon Stead is favourite to win Player of the Year though  . Should have had a bet on him winning that award.

Exactly, why bother mentioning the fans player award?:)
As there is no players player of the month and i thought he won it twice (which would have meant he won that more than any other player) which subsequently would have meant more people were of the opinion that Gerrard had a better season than Terry. I know it has no real impact on the award but thought i would mention it.

The fans player of the month doesn't really give any real reflection of a players seasonal performance though:)
No its just there opinion of there performance for that month. Just like the award is tonight is on the performances up to the time of the vote and at the time of the votes Gerrard was at his best (pretty sure the votes were in January). As i said above; i just thought it was worth a mention

I keep hearing Liverpool fans bringing up stats that they play better and win more games without Gerrard but they'll still back him as player of the year
I think thats mainly said when people accuse Liverpool of being a one man team. They are not saying that Liverpool are better without him just that they can still win when he doesn't play.

appears to be a relatively poor season for him compared to previous years?
As i said earlier he has scored 19 goals this season which is his best return ever and he has done it from RM so can't have been too bad a season for him. Again like i said earlier, as far as i can remember the votes were made in either January or February when Gerrard happened to be playing particuarly well.

I'm not sure why the Liverpool site is reporting that it's been awarded, since as far as I can see, it hasn't. I'm not saying he won't, it's just that it isn't announced for an hour or so.

Hell, the only thing on the BBC site is about Rooney being the favourite, as of this morning.
I guess SSN etc are waiting for the rest of the awards to be annouced (team of year etc). According to lfc forums some guys have/are watching the awards live on an arabic channel and mentioned it before Liverpool's website said anything.
Here are a couple of neutral sites with it:
