Pfsense experts? Help please?

Hey all,

I've got pfsense setup at work for clients to use the free wifi offered. The bandwidth is limited per user with a captive portal offering the typical agree/disagree disclaimer.

What I want to do, is limit the bandwidth on anything that is accessed from the internet, but should the file already be stored on the proxy server - remove this limitation.

Is this possible?

Firstly, what are you using for the per user bandwidth limitation?

Currently using the captive portal to limit the bandwidth. The only reason that I put a limit on, is that until we get Fibre, we've got a whopping 2mb connection!

Are you using a pfSense proxy or something external to pfSense?

Why don't you do the throttling at Squid level instead of Captive portal?

Does that allow me to remove the throttling from stuff stored in the proxy?

Well, I imagine that would be the default behaviour of squid? Perhaps not, test it!

Per host throttling causes all pages to time out

Set the box up today and it worked but one problem! Unless I set the internet gateway to DMZ for the box it refuses to work?

Strangely it worked quite happy with a cheap tp-link router at home which didn't require dmz set.

Any ideas?
