PG279Q buyer's regret

Honestly, it's luck of the draw but really evaluate yourself if it's really unperfect.
First PG279Q i got had no prob, I had that on-the-day of release, I was probably the first "public" to physically have it in the UK.
Second one, that i ended up keeping has absolutely no problem at all.
Dont know if other people are just picky or they really got bad units

I'd say it's imperfect due to the slight yellow tinge in the top left - Am I willing to moan and cry about it, or more to the point return it? Hell no, I'll get on with it. No dead pixels or BLB is a win for me. :D

Interested that you've got 2 Swifts! That's what I'm hoping to have one day, two side by side :)

Interesting thread, as I was looking to pick two of these up to replace my 21:9 monitor. I'll have to properly check them before using it.

Glad you're happy with it in the end @GTiPUG :)

The yellow tinge probably is BLB, but if it's minor enough that you don't care, then it's definitely a win on the lottery ^^

You're probably right, actually. I've set the temperature a smidge cooler now to correct it. The 144Hz Gsync is worth it :D

When I get my new place I might get a second one, I'm in love!

Enjoy your new panel, my PG279Q's manufacturing date is October 2015 so I suspect once of the first batches? Anyway I have had no problems with it at all and very minimal BLB with no dead pixels. I think it was the later batches the had QC problems.

Interesting, where do I find that out? Any slight yellow on your panel? Or is it consistent white across the whole thing?

Underneath the monitor there is a sticker with a date on it. I wouldn't say there is a yellow tint on mine but I could possibly have slight BLB on the bottom right corner when the black light is turned all the way up but even then when I move my head to look directly at the corner it goes away so I think it could be my viewing angle and not the panel itself. I'm not fussed either way because I set the back light to 25%

Ah okay, fair enough. A lot of people recommend setting the backlight to 25%... I tried it but it seemed WAY too dark?!

Noooo nono! I dont have 2 Swifts haha, not that crazy or balling.
I initially returned the first one, but experiencing 1440p, 144Hz, IPS(type) display, I couldnt go back to my 60Hz 1440p(PB278Q) so few months later when they the Swifts dropped a little bit in price, just pulled the trigger again :D

The Date of Manufacture is underneath, where your cables go in to; IIRC

Ohhhh!! Hahaha, my bad! Was gonna say, I'd be seriously jealous of that :D

Ah cool, I'll check that in a bit.

Bleugh...

Just turned on my PC this morning and went straight to a site that uses an all white background. My eyes slip to the pixels right in the centre/bottom of the panel and I notice small blotches of intense white. They're not dead pixels, the pixels change colour with the panel. There are three of them, and also a blackish one with a diameter of around 3 pixels. These pixels also function correctly. It's almost as if it's dust trapped behind the panel distorting the backlight slightly?

Really gutted. Informed the seller and sent pictures, but they're not being too helpful saying they "can't see it". Not sure what to do. If I start a return through eBay does anyone know if I'll come out on top? Not paying over 600 beans for anything less than perfect!

Return agreed on the PG279Q. Got a fantastic deal on two XB271HUs, then also a XB271HK. Plan is to run the 4K in the centre of a mount flanked by two 1440p XB271HUs :D

Lol, best of luck with the next set :)

And yeah, Ebay invariably side with the buyer.
Cheers bud! I'm worrying my 980ti isn't enough firepower to run the sheer number of pixels involved... Even only gaming on one of the side panels! What dya think?!

Might just wait for Volta then grab some mega horsepower!

980Ti for 4k? My hunch is you'll want a bit more... 1080 does pretty well I think.

1440p sure it'll be fine :)
Oh no, absolutely not. The 980ti will only be planing old games on the 4K - I'm replaying Oblivion at the moment for example.

My concern is more in its ability to play games on one of the 1440p screens while also driving the 4K and 1440p on desktop.

Think I'll cancel my headphone upgrade and grab a second hand 1080ti!

Oh, driving desktops I wouldn't really worry about... even with youtube on one of them, it's not going to rack up much vs a game :)

But I don't think you'll be wrong with a 1080ti either, any game in 4k and there's an end to it :)

The consumer has been taking it up the ass for years when it comes to monitors. Paying high prices for panels that are quality checked by MrMagoo is laughable. When it comes to around the £600 mark and up dead pixels should be non existent, bleed minimal and glow minimal.

We're simply paying well over the odds for what these things are actually worth. And it's nothing more than companies trying it on to see how low they can set the bar for quality vs how high they can raise it for price.
