Phal's house of pics

I'm stunned mate! You've got a superb collection of incredible shots. You should be very pleased, they're amazing.

You thought about printing a few out for a 2016 calendar?

Thank you very much :) It crossed my mind but haven't really researched the logistics of it!

Loving the whirlpool and beach shots mate - lovely :)

Cant believe I wasn't following on Flickr so am now !

Hah thanks :) I liked those whirlpool shots too but they're both a little flawed imo.

The first is a single exposure and I know the DOF wouldn't be deep enough to give me sharp scenery but since the water was the focus I thought I'd give it a go.

The second is two shots stacked but they were handheld so were a bit fiddle to stack and I needed more shots to do it properly. It was a bit half-assed and I kinda wish I'd done a better job of it so there wouldn't be a blurry out of focus bit in the midde of the shot where neither exposure was in focus hehe.

Around a year ago I went to this beach and saw a Heron on the beach for the first time. It was nice to see one in a different environment to the usual reeds/freshwater etc. I went back there recently (around a year later) and saw two. I guess they can make use of the rockpools at low tide but the low tide sandy beaches nearer to where I live would be useless.

Trying to hide from me a little it seems...

I got a bit closer but eventually he flew around me and back behind me in the direction where I'd come from. At least he/she was considerate to fly east so I wasn't shooting into the sun any more!

I starting heading back where I came from to get closer. It's not easy walking on seaweed covered rocks that have 2-3 foot deep holes etc when I consider what I'm carrying in my hands lol.

I got closer but he decided to get more distance again

This last little jaunt of the Heron seemed to get the attention of a grumpy Seagull because it made one angry pass at it lol

Then it landed somewhere further than the last place and I almost stopped shooting but I saw the Gull come in again so I took more shots. It wasn't till I got hom that I noticed it had been a bombing run instead of just a flyby hehe

These are all handheld whilst I was walking around on the exposed rock at low tide.

The exposure is about as quick as I tend to use generally (1/1600) and my Canon 7d2 shoots at 10fps so that's what I use for wildlife :)

What a beauty, I on the other hand was still asleep! Lovely colours, love the usage of DOF in the second shot too.

Yeah it was a nice flat lump of marble which was still wet from the receding tide. I got a few more shots where I re-arranged all those pebbles but haven't sorted it yet.

Got some nice shots of a friendly Kestrel too :D

Some of the Kestrel shots I got on new years morning. Light was still quite low so I was using 1/250 handheld (kinda). This was taken in a car park near the beach and near a lagoon where the Kestrel hunts so I was able to use my car roof as a rest for my elbow hehe.

I saw him/her land on top of a little hut so I drive over there and parked up about 6-8 meters away. It's fairly human tolerant due to where it lives so it sat up there for a while :)

Few shots from a local Bluebell Walk that gets done every year :)

The weather wasn't great and sunlight came and went pretty quick so it wasn't ideal for any wide angle shots. I got a few close ups that I liked with longer lenses though! Got a few looks and comments for using my 200-400 for a quick landscape shot lol

A recent visit to the British Wildlife Centre! The Herons are busy around there too which is nice and there was a surprise visit from some Kites.

Baby Muntjac Deer was sleeping for most of the day but he did at least get up right at the end of the day just before the centre closed

The Wildcats are always a struggle for me since they're quick and I don't really have an ideal lens for these. I either choose between my 100mm F2.8L macro which is slow or my 200-400 which is too long! Got a few that were worth keeping

The Heron chicks were noisy as hell for a while and this was why... Dinner time!

The Pine Martens are also something I've never really got a decent shot of before but this time I managed to get a few keepers :)

One of the two Red Kites that made an appearance. It seems they know that the Herons get some food scraps thrown their way and turned up for some of that

Finally got some shots of the Seal in Eastbourne harbour. It was just before sunset and it was just casually hanging about. It decided to come take a closer look at a few of us by the side of the water and then headed back out to the middle of the outer harbour where it likes to sit at low tide.

1
Took this shot from the 5th floor of an apartment block in the Marina. It was handheld and using an additional 1.4x TC (784mm total) but I did cheat and lean up against the doorframe to the balcony and rest the lens against the open door lol

At this stage I'd come down by the side of the water to get a bit closer. It headed over near the lock gates so I followed

It kinda sat there for a while bobbing around and checking people out. After a few more people showed up it just kinda sank down and submerged before swimming away to a more comfortable distance
