Out of the 3 new ones I think the first is the best which of course doesn't say a lot! IMO the first at least has a star wars vibe that is like the old ones where as 2 and 3 are all about more special effects and stupid situations to use them in....
also samuel Jackson as a Jedi with a purple light sabre is one of the biggest let downs ever. He was supposed to be a badass but yet turned into a twig munching pansy...thanks George you noob.

Watched ROTS earlier. Have to say, it's not a bad film as for as the new ones go.. But the last 20 minutes turn in to a giant squeeze to try and tie up all the loose ends.
Could have been better if there was more crippled / building Vader scenes, or more emperor and Anakin scenes. He basically grooms him in the space of 10 minutes after Windu gets the boot. "Go murder the kid", "OK. I have no problem with that".
Oh and the "Noooooo" makes me chuckle.

Do you think somewhere along the line people told Lucas that some of his decisions for the prequels were just crap or he just surrounds himself with 'yes' men and believes his own hype.

It's so annoying that the franchise has such huge potential to be totally badass, yet they're continually screwing it up.
I think the kids stuff needs to be dropped and it needs to get way darker, I'm thinking along the lines of the way various Batman reincarnations have gone over the years.

It'll never happen til Lucas dies and even then he'll undoubtedly have the whole franchise tied up so watertight that it'd make it near impossible for anyone to re-do it.
all 3 prequals were ruined by Anakin for me (ignoring the childrens toy whore Binks). In the ep1 he was a very annoying little brat, ep2 was just a big soppy love story with him being a whiny teenager, ep3 he was just Kevin (from Kevin + Perry) with a lightsabre - his voice was grating, he just moaned and whinged the whole way through and then to top it off when he actually finally became Vader, he made Vader cry about his wife... VADER DOESNT CRY. The scenes without him or where he doesnt talk are decent enough. Too many bright colours and sparkly things to keep the kids happy though - The prequals were basically just to sell toys.
True. Lucas geared SW to be merchandise and kid-friendly right from the very beginning.

Right! What we need to do is strap George Lucas down, Clockwork Orange style, then show him episodes IV, V and VI, before showing him the prequels. Then shout 'You see what you did there!' at him.
The first five minutes alone of A New Hope has more going for it than anything in films 1, 2 and 3.
