phenom 2's

I wouldn't be buying these chips from OcUK until they sort the prices out, it's the typical new release here. Price high and grab the "mugs" then drop it a little and get the patient.

wait, OCUK drop the prices eventually, I've yet to see proof on that :p

It is rather silly, over £10 more than I just paid for a actual BE, to get a non BE edition seems ridiculous. Thinking if a BE is £235 ish, then you should be paying £225 ish for a non BE.

Seems strange that OCUK of all people would be selling the locked version then ? I'm not disputing what you say, but it doesn't change the fact it sucks that the enthusiasts here are being palmed off with non-BE parts.

Partially if you don't know theres a non BE, and you're asking anywhere to try and get stock on release day you might end up with a costly mistake(very costly to us :p ). I mean in 3 months you just go to the cheapest distributor and buy stock for the store of something you know. But pre-release you phone up any old person in the world who might have stock and say yes the instant you find any, sometimes you get caught out. Dell and the likes sell on extra cpu's sometimes so you might buy from them thinking theirs only a BE, or buying from a distro elsewhere in the world, especially if theres a communication problem, IE from taiwan or something. Maybe AMD just boxed up a wrong batch of cpu's into a box with a diff part number on it and no one caught it till OCUK opened it.

Well that might have worked were it not for the fact that it's not even the BE.

No one could be stupid enough to buy one of these ? Someone, somewhere s*****d up.
Well if someone buys one because they see a BE box in the picture I am sure there should be some comeback!

It's possible, but then you'd expect a company serving the enthusiast market to be honest and say so when they announced it in the forums rather than hoping no one notices? And using images of the BE box too? All this is moot if someone receives their chip tomorrow and it is in fact a BE afterall, but that could have been clarified with a short post to the forum, so I have no qualms about saying it smells pretty funny at the moment.

What's this jibber jabber about OE locked 940's? When has AMD ever mentioned them?

920 and 940BE are the only chips mentioned in any AMD press releases including todays and even on their website. Go figure.

hi everyone,

I am in desperate need for the 940 and well, we can all agree the prices are WAY overboard. american e-tailers have released an excellent price for the first available Phenom 2's.

When can anyone expect the prices to drop since I won't have a PC to use this weekend.

You may want to remove the n****g word buddy. OcUK dont like competitor names being spread on here.

Just I'd send a nice nudge before you get the stroppy lot :D :D :D :p ... Couldn't Resist :D

It's always the strategy, for everything that's launched here.
Slightly higher price, blame exchange rate.
Couple of weeks later, drop price, cheers from everyone.

With any luck, the Phenom II will be quick enough, and overclock well enough, to push Intel into dropping the price of it's skt775 quads.
