Phenom @ 3.7Ghz

Yeah pretty good but more money than a q6600, new q8200 replcing q6600 next month for same price which will be quicker.

Hell, I've had AMD rigs for 8 years but finally swapped a month ago. Didn't want to but AMD just not offering the same bang for buck. I hate to say that but true.

Q8200 only has a 7x multi though.....

The Phenoms aren't all bad tbh, will be interesting to see what the 45nm versions are like, as mentioned the phenom suffers from low clock speeds atm and a die shrink might remedy that. I bought an am2+ setup with a cheap x2 and will get a phenom x4 when they're about £100.

this phenom dropped through my door this afternoon ,on air now tt 120
any idea what the average clock is on these plz and an idea on fsb/ multiplier volts
just looking for somewhere to start really , thanks

Average will be wide due to these big cloks only just appearing. But it looks like FSB should be left as close to stock or the best your board allows at best, then increase multiplier. Shouldn't be too hard. Just keep going. Increase volts as/if/when needed.

yes ok thanks , up to 2.8 without any effort at all really, will have a go later and see what gives

Have a check over at Xtremesystems.org and see what they're doing. The efforts of some of the overclockers on there demonstrate a level of skill, understanding and probably persistence that few people on this forum can muster.

Agreed i check the amd part quite a lot

I've seen benchmarks posted at 3.5/6GHz, so 3.7 isn't much of a stretch with serious thought.

At 3.2GHz, the Phenom is level with a Q6600 clock-for-clock. At 3.7GHz...?

Unfortunately not, the Phenom is still behind the C2Q in a clock-for-clock scenario.

It's more like a 3.4Ghz 65nm or 3.2Ghz 45nm.

So IMO, AMD still have a fair way to go to persuade the overclocker back.

recently bought a 9550 and tbh guys i didnt feel the need to overclock it. this runs sooo smooth its awesome. yes fps is -10 or -15 but who cares going from 100fps to 85...i am not a die hard gamer so... :D

150 euros well spent i must say
