Phenom II 955 what is point?

I've not got SB750 so there'd be no unlocking for me... (m3a32-mvp)
I reckon the 955 will do me for a good year or 2 though, I look forward to seeing the advances in DDR3 technology over the time, at the moment AM3 platform has nothing for me.

After reading some 4-5 reviews I thought that 955 was nowhere near close to i7 920? Most of them say it's more like a competitor for the Q9550/Q9650...

But then again I could be wrong.. :o

That would be my impression too. I moved over to the 720 from a q9450 and i would say for encoding the C2Q does much better.

For gaming i would say there's next to no difference. If anything i feel the AMD seems a touch smoother... possibly something to do with the onboard memory controller.

Hmm this chip does seem to be going down in price.... maybe when it hits the £130-140 price it might be worth the upgrade to maybe get 4ghz

Installed this last night and I have to say I'm impressed with the gains over the 9600, especially noticeable in WinRar... There's also the convenience of not having to disable to damn TLB fix every time I reboot. THANKYOU VERY MUCH FOR FORCING THE TLB FIX ON ME MICROSOFT!

I almost feel dirty for saying it, but right now, I see no need to clock this CPU any further. [/heresy]

Well, the drop below £200 did it for me and I had to order.
I expect they'll go down another £20-£30 in the next few months but it's not too big a deal...
I'm looking forward to seeing what sort of speed increases there'll be, I've been more than happy with the old 9600 @ 2.5 for the last few months but figure it's time for a boost.
You wont be disapointed, I cant tell any difference in gaming in Crysis in comparison to my i7 setup I had.

Got my X4 955BE running at 3.6ghz at stock voltage, temps dont go about 48c on Air using a Thermalright Ultra 120 Xtreme with prime 95 running.

Will tweak it this evening, try for 3.8ghz prime stable, will need to increase voltage though - really happy I've switched back to AMD again. :)

Will run a few benchmarks later also.
