Hello there, I've got my specs on my signature. I don't know but what it help having a quad core CPU Phenom II with my current setup?

I was currently watching at the Phenom II 810 model AM3 and the Phenom 920/940.

Seeing that my motherbaord is up to date with the new CPU's and supports them, which is the best performer for the price? there is a price difference of about 40sterling when it comes to the 920 -> 940 and just 4 sterling from the 810 -> 920.

Which is the best with my current setup and also if I am to upgrade to a better graphic card like 4870x2 in crossfire.

I hope to hear from you soon. Thanks

I think the 920 is a better performer than the 810, and the difference between the 940 and 920 is that the 940 has a slightly higher base clock and an unlocked multiplier. Unless you are going into extreme overclocking, the 940 probably won't provide too much benefit oer the 920, at least, not enough to warrant £40 more.

It all depends on why you think you need to upgrade, if its for graphic intensive games then a dual 4870 would be the answer, if its for cpu intensive programmes then a better cpu.

Also the newest release of chips is supposed to be later this month (950 Black Edition according to some sites, at around 3.1GHz)

Edit: I am informed they are going for the [email protected]

So what's the difference between the 810 and the 920? and no i'm not into extreme overclocking, so a simple overclock could do just fine. I play at a resolution of 1680x1050. Would my cpu be bottlenecking the gfx card? Will the Quad Core increase performance in my PC? Willing to sell my Dual Core for 60eur :/ and upgrading to quad

Willing to spend approx 180-200eur so both 810 and 920 are reasonable.

What do you use the PC for?

If your Gaming I would recommend the Tri Core Phenom X3 720 Black Edition, its a great CPU and easy to overclock with its unlocked multi.

If you really want a Quad and are looking to clock then if your willing to wait a little longer then AM3 Phenom 2 X4 955 3.2GHz is due out on the 20th of April.

The 810 is an AM3 CPU but only has 4MB of L3 Cache compared to the 920s 6MB

Also Change your sig, 4 lines Max! (See the Rules for details)

I too would be looking mainly at the X3 720 or X4 940. These chips share the same main advantages - they have a large cache per core, high clock speeds and unlocked multiplier.
If you have a tight budget, I would strongly recommend the 3 core 720 - even for those who sometimes use all 4 cores at once fully - the question must be - how much of the time ?

Well I would like the system to be a gaming system, and prefer to go for a quad core 1 so I will be ready for upcoming games that's why. Do you think there would be price reductions in about a month or so with the upcoming Phenom 2 955? I'm aiming for a Quad which is something like a 940 with a lesser price haha. From reviews, seems 920 is better than 810 am I correct?

And 10x for notifying me about the sig, didn't know.

Hmm I'll wait for a month or so and see the prices :) maybe the 940 will reduce it's price to a 920 haha. Thanks guys. Appreciate your help =]

Hmm yes yes, I've read a lot about it, but should I risk my warranty and other stuff for a 4th not optimized core? maybe not all of them are good ones :/ and I have a K9A2, will that work?

Your warranty isn't at risk, a quick change to a bios setting is all that's needed, no one will ever know. I don't know if the K9A2 can do this trick.

If you want 4 cores buy a 4 core cpu.

If you're happy with 3 cores buy an x3 and if the 4th core unlocks and is fully functional you have a nice bonus.

Also not all the of x3's are quad cores locked down, some of them had the extra core disabled due to stability that contain actually contain the 4th core.

mm I think I'll wait this month than and see the prices, The Phenom 920 seems gd to my expectations, but if the 940 has the price reduced to a 920, I'll go for that one haha :D

Thanks Guys.

Necron

Think it's already been decided but I'd keep away from the 810, the 720/940 would be your best options depending on your needs/budget.

I would go for Black Editions if you can, gives you more overclocking headroom and are the faster chips in the first place; budget permitting of course.
