Phenom II has DDR3-1333 issue

It's not really an issue because you don't need 1333, and you can still run 1333 if you really want just avoid running 4 slots... which is OTT anyway.

Expect update in next revision of Phenom (coming very shortly).

"AMD representative has just confirmed that the issue is a software nature and that it will be fixed shortly with a simple Bios update. AMD has assured us that Phenom II chips do not have any hardware DDR3 related bugs. "

Non-issue...
I presume it'll be fixed in the next bios update for each board.

Sorry I actually meant next revision of BIOS, not Phenom. Shoud vet my posts at work, the mind wonders!

Phenom II comes in two different forms, AM2+ and AM3.

The 940 is a DDR2 AM2+ chip and WONT fit in an AM3 board.

ALL AM3 processors will run in BOTH AM2+ and AM3 motherboards.

You have an upgrade path of running a cost effective DDR2 system today and migrating to DDR3 later/end of year when it becomes more affordable and viable.

AMD still use dual-channel memory, later revisions might move to triple-channel if it's required (currently it makes very little difference in performance).

HTH :)

Damn,

So what would you recommend, buying some nice dual channel with the cpu and mobo i stated above or some tripple channel with the cheapest i7 and gigabyte ud4 board?.

lol well considering i just got the triple channel RAM in the post i may just get eh I7, works out to be around 60quid more!, but i guess i get it here and now.

Depends, if you like many other predominantly play games then the i7 is potentially money wasted.

The Phenom II can match it at higher resolutions, in the case of the X3 the AMD is actually slightly quicker.

I don't see any need for DDR3 just yet, nor do I see any need for 6GB of ram...

Hmmm i think as this is my first post on the forums i'll shout some AMD fanboy comments.

Basically AMD all the way.

This small hiccup is nothing compared to some of the mistakes intel have made along the way... for example how about the dodgy memory controllers on the new i7s which are unlikely to like you ramping up the ram voltages, thus crippling overclocking potential.

This may not be the time or place... but i think we need to agree that if we don't support amd, the mainstream consumer cpu market is gonna become a monopoly... which would truely suck for us consumers having to pay the price.

Return the ram =p

Wait a tiny while for AM3 to surface!

Those AM3 X4's are a bit weak at the moment, 4mb of L3... Meh.
Wait for the better CPU's to come out with 6mb.

The X3s have 6mb of L3, and by extension the X2 may well have 8mb :D Roll on the roll-out!
+ The fact that the 'duff' core is unlockable raises some very interesting possibilities for these to be a runaway success!
