Hey All.

Thinking of upgrading from my old AM2 AMD 4200+ 2.2GHz 1MB Cache to the AM2 AMD Phenom X3 8650 2.3GHz 3.5MB Cache.

Been aving a good read on these and we all know they are X4 Phenoms with one core disabled and from what i've read they don't have the bugs that the X4 had niether.

You fellas reckon it's worth it and will I notice the difference, I can't afford to move to Intel because i'd have to change all my system again which is something I do not personally want to do.

I would have got the Phenom X4 but i've heard a few stories about the bad performance and that's something the X3 doesn't have. It's either this or get the 6400+.

Ah...

I've only got £130 to spend unfortunatly can't push anymore than that got enough to payout this month already. If i decided on Quad is it worth it over the triple core? X3 at the moment is rather tempting depending if i can get the 9550 at a cheaper price.

Hey Chaps

Just updated my BIOS to F4 good old Gigabyte DS3 770X AM2+. I can now upgrade to the 9750 X4 Phenom, with now full performance without the penaltys.

So now my question is, is it worth it? Will my gaming improve e.g World in Conflict and video encoding from a X2 4200+.

You will not notice much if any improvement in World in Conflict.
When video encoding there will be a massive speed increase. Should be over double the speed. :)

Hey.

I know many games today don't actually make use of the dual cores or quad cores yet but it's worth the investment now rather than later.

Majority of the time im using my PC for web browsing, video encoding, burning dvd/cd's, casual gaming World In Conflict, Company of Heroes etc, as my 9600GT plays them all maxed out in DX10 with no problems at 1680x1050.

Just fancy a slice of the Quad Core pie and see what they are like, so I thought a bill will have to wait and raise my budget to get the 9750 X4 rather than the X3 8650.

In what instance would a 3 core processor be useful then? im not sure whey AMD have released these tbh (i know someone will completely own me know with a very good aswer lol).

O'yes before I forget.

When I install the processor will I have to clear the cmos or anything else or is it a simple plug and play?
its a good idea to clear the cmos so no problems will happen... but tbh i don't clear the cmos when i change processors.. just make sure the cpu settings are set to auto before changing it..

Hey.

I'm using Windows Vista Ultimate 64-Bit will this detect the new cpu? I hope I don't have to re-install everything again for it to function properly will I.

I don't mind if I have to as long as it works that's the main thing.

Just hoping it's a simple plug in and play.
