my spec is in my sig, thinking of getting a phenom x6, i mostly game / record / edit / upload to youtube, record with fraps, now dont get me wrong its fine, but i want to speed up the process, thinking the X6 will speed it up nicely :)

my main question, will it be okay to just drop it in my current rig in my sig?

off - question, i like seeing the cpy / ram % on my g15, if i had the phenom x6 will it bugger it, or will it just show 4 of the cores?

oh, and to add, i will be upgrading to 8gig ram around xmas time, just wanting to speed up rendering times.

Yeh it should work fine as long as its an AM3 processor cant see why it would not work,
It should just show as 4 more cores on the G15 but im not 100% sure on that.

yea it is a am3, just hoping my psu would cope with dropping in effectively an extra 4 cores, maybe overclocking it to 3.5 / 3.8

with the g15 the cpu bar is only 4 pixels wide so could only show 4 cores?

edit: just noticed i never said what my psu is DUUUh.... my psu is the corsair TX 650

If you want to know if your PSU will be big enough to cope with the hardware that
you have got then I would highly recommend going onto the following web-site:

http://www.extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp

If you put in the spec of your PC, or a close to as you can get then click calculate
at the bottom it will tell you ther Watt that your PC will draw, gives you a good idea
of whether you will need a new PSU or not then.

Hope this helps you out m8.

errm... i just done it for my current spec... and it says minimum psu wattage - 830watt... LOL.. it seems a tad off considering my HX650 barely gets warm to the touch, im guessing nobody really knows how much wattage the 4870x2 pulls D;

Even revision 1.0 of your motherboard supports all the Phenom II X6 CPUs so you should be fine. Make sure you update your BIOS to the latest version first though to ensure compatibility.

my motherboard revision is 2.1 (thanks ocuk :) ) and running the latest bios thing so im guessing the new chip will be find, and i am planning on getting rid of the 4870x2 and getting a 5870 or something
