I've read a lot about this cpu and have been offered a very cheap.
Just wondering what everyones opinions on this are?

Thanks :)

if its very cheap then it'll be worth it. just remember it as the TLB bug, you'll probably won't ever see it.. also if your motherboard is am2 u should check to see if theres a bios update that supports the phemons first..

I have overclocked this 4400x2 before, but know I've put it back at stock speeds.
I'll be mainly using it as an upgrade for gaming.
tbh in gaming u won't see much different if any, because most games only use 1-2 cores... also the 9500/9600 are difficult to overclock...

isn't the asrock dual sata 2 socket 939?

If it is then just forget the phenom, a socket change would be better served with a change to a core 2 mobo... period.

yep Asrock dual sata 2 is 939.. the phenom won't fit in it.... tbh i thought he was puting it in a am2 motherboard, that i didn't say anything..

sup com, and i think FS:X take advantage of Quads...

Haveing just gone grom a 6400+ X2 to a 9850BE Phenom there has been a noticable improvment in OS speed . the only game I run at the moment is Crysis and on this there is no noticable improvement. however the windows experience has greatly improved along with unraring files / transcodeing.. For me its been a worthwhile upgrade;)

Soo... from what everyone are saying, if your cpu speed is 2.3Ghz then it makes no difference if you run an old 929pin 4400x2 or a brand spanking new AM2+ 9600 as the clocks are still the same. Unless your application uses 2 or more cpus.
Therefore, why are people upgrading to new processors if they have no visible differences (apart running Word loading quicker)?

people don't just use they computers for gaming.. encodeing video/audio is much faster on quad core... also quad core allows u to run more apps without lagging..

no, it does... usually the newer the chip, the more it can do at a given speed. That's why a dual core E2140 can best a Pentium 4 *spit* 3ghz with HT...

even one of the E2140's cores will do whatever the pentium can do, faster, and when they reach the same speed, the gap increases...

It's called IPC, instructions per clock cycle.
