Phone camera vs Proper camera

What would you guys recommend for a good travel sized (not too big) camera.. Around £500 Max.
The ones I can think of are the Canon EOS M200, Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ100/200 and the Sony RX100 are there other I should look at?

Only have experience of the Sony RX100 out of that lot which is a decent enough camera - good low light performance, very natural balance to colours in the image, etc.

Fine. How about framing the spider with YOUR phone?

chill brother. I didn't even say anything about your spider. It's not a bad shot at all, but the poster MrRockliffe is right though. "quite a lot of fringing and chromatic aberration." stopping down an fstop or 2 would have improved the technical aspect of the photo a great deal.

Point is, if you use a phone camera you don't need to worry about these things, if you are gonna advocate not using a phone camera, then you illustrate the point beautifully that having 'better' equipment doesn't automatically mean better pictures. If someone is asking, as they are in this very thread 'should i get a top end phone cam or a good actual camera' Well the fact they are asking means they should probably* get the phone cam.

Just go and search Iphone VS DLSR and there's dozens of website comparing them. Unless you have a particular 'semi'-'extreme' use case, then a phone is better for most people most of the time who just wanna take pictures.

Especially with your phone camera.

Sounds like you’re taking the feedback on your original set of posted images personally. I’m sorry but what you posted isn’t a great argument for cameras being better than phones. The spider was a better shot however.

Computational photograph is definitely starting to push the boundaries of what small sensors on a smartphone can do. I can get some really solid shots with my iPhone, they’re great for general snaps but I’m not going to replace my cameras with my phone any time soon for professional work nor my travel photography.

My first camera was a used Fuji XE-2 and the 35mm f2, really nice step up from camera photos.

You’ve got to be interested and a bit invested in taking good photos. RAW photos ideally need some editing which means sitting down to process your photos. I personally really enjoy this process. Picking the best photos and adjust them to my style, it makes each photo more purposeful and personal. My phone photos tend to be just snaps.

I am in the process of wanting to change my phone and have the dilemma whether get a more premium phone like a Pixel 5 or Samsung S20 FE or get a more budget phone and get a proper camera like a Sony RX100, Panasonic DMC-G100, Panasonic DMC-TZ200 or alike. I usually only take pics when I am on trips/holidays.
Have cameras on phones moved on to match traditional cameras yet?
I currently have a Samsung S7 and Panasonic bridge camera DMC-FZ200. If I opt for a new camera and cheaper phone I want something a bit smaller.

It’s worth noting that the G100 is heavily video oriented and marketed at Vlogers.
