Phone for £100

Are you eligible for any of the Carphone Warehouse upgrade deals. Nokia 735 can be had for £129 as a PAYG upgrade.

Iirc there's a section on cpw's web site where you can put your number in and it tells you if your payg phone is eligible for the payg upgrage subsidised price. You don't need to put that networks sim in when you use it as the phone is unlocked anyway.

Loads of my friends are very happy with their huawei phones most under £100 bought as payg upgrades off cpw

is the Moto G 4G the 2nd generation? Does 4G work with Giffgaff? Does the simcard out my 4S work in the Moto G?

Thanks

I think their 4G is still in trial, not sure if they are expanding the trial at the moment (don't have a 4G phone myself so haven't really looked into it), probably best to check their website for more info.

I believe both phones use a micro SIM.

From what i can gather, if the phone has a memory card slot it means it is a gen2 Moto G.

I can get a brand new unlocked one for £139. So this is the best phone for this kind of money? Has anyone had any trouble with the phone having a mind of its own ringing and texting people? My Xperia sony was forever doing it and that also had the android system on it.

Sorry for all questions but i am hovering over the 'Complete Order' button and want to get these answered before i order it.

Thanks

It's a coin toss between the Moto G and the Lumia 735. The decision largely depends whether or not you want Windows Phone. The 735 seems like the better handset; early reviews suggest it has the better screen and better camera, and it has 4G. However, it is more expensive.

The first gen Moto G has a 4.5" display and no micro SD. There's a 4G variant of that handset that has a micro SD slot. Then there's the 2014 Moto G, which has a 5" display and micro SD slot but lacks 4G. Some places were selling off the original model for £80-£90. At that price, that's the phone to go for. Over £100 the 2014 Moto G wins out (unless you really want 4G).

I know i know, i just want to make sure i am ordering the right thing.

Spotted one with a 5" screen now, which throws a spanner into the works... Is that a gen2? Why can't they call it the Moto G, Moto G2, MotoG3 etc, makes things easier for phone dummies like me :p

Edit: just seen the above comment... So it is the 5" moto G that is the 2nd gen? Bloody confusing stuff these phones lol... I did look at the 735 lumia but at £100 more, its a no.

Yes. The 5" model is the new one. Agreed, it's not a brilliant way of naming devices. Seems to be a trend at the moment.

The 735 is £129 at CPW as a PAYG Upgrade, or £149 as a new connection. Getting a bit away from your £100 target there though...

Its late and you are just hurting my head now. :p

I have never even walked into a Carphone Warhouse, nevermind had one of their phones. So i don't know why they would upgrade my phone if i have nothing to do with them?

I am on Giffgaff and cannot see anything to do with Giffgaff on their site.

Ordered the 5" Moto G. Im not bothered about how quick the internet is, i only use it to come on here on the phone.

Thanks guys.

You won't be disappointed. Got one for my mum and it arrived today. I am really impressed with it considering the price. I have an LG G3 and don't think it is anywhere near x3 as good as the Moto G 5inch.

Would this be a worthy upgrade over my HTC One S?

Don't want anything bigger than 4.5" and don't really want to enter a new contract at the min so seeing if anything in the budget range is worth switching to.
