Might be a bit of a silly question but I've recently just moved into a flat. Currently sorting out getting internet and I'm unsure on a few things!

I've connected a phone up to the socket and I get a dialing tone but when I try to dial a number it just plays a 'number not recognised' message everytime.

I'm assuming I need to phone BT to get the line activated or something along those lines?

on a BT subject .. any idea if you can just rent a phone line from them , Just for the internet?

You need to set up an account with BT to use the line, standard rental is £11.25 a month (includes evening\weekend landline calls by default). Contract is 12 months. For an extra £5 a month you get daytime calls included.

Yes. £11.50 a month. You get free weekend calls iirc with them.

Thanks,

i already have a phone line with them and a call package but i never use the thing .. only internet. Going to see if i can get it for net use only

The 'base' BT package is listed as £0 per month plus £11.50 for line rental :)

What I was thinking. I'm assuming theres already an account due to the previous tenants. Will need to speak to the leasing agents I guess!

Just call BT up to change it. If you have the previous tenants' service cut off first, it will take much longer for them to reactivate the line.
