Phone not syncing with Gmail often?

My phone (Sensation) appears to not be syncing with my Gmail account very often. It has always notified me of new emails almost instantaneously, but over the last few days it seems to have stopped. Just checked now, and its showing last sync with Gmail as being at 9:18 this morning.

I'm not so concerned about calendars and contacts, but the fact I am not getting any notifications about emails unless I force it to sync (the 9:18 this morning was me forcing it) is annoying.

Any ideas on settings I could have inadvertently changed to cause this?

The only settings for this are here, i think.

Settings - Accounts & Sync - Background data / Auto-sync (Both ticked)?

might be something like juicedefender interfering, maybe it's only syncing when you're using wifi or something.

probably just giffgaff's iffy data connection, though:p

Have you tried turning it of and on again? Assuming no power saving apps have been installed you can change the polling in the sync settings or the gmail client itself.

Im on Talkmobile now, but the data connection is just as iffy. However, its worked fine when I do have decent signal for a few months, but has suddenly stopped.

Background data and Auto sync are on, and I haven't installed any apps that would affect battery or data connections...

how often do google contacts and google calendar sync btw? or is it Push like gmail?

my talkmobile data has been perfect though...

AFAIK push via the gtalk service. GTALK contains most comms between a handset and google, it's a TCP con with a huge timeout that's used as a transport service. You can install monitors for it if you really care etc... On handsets with this feature available, the icons for wifi/network access will glow green when the GTalk service is running and white when not.

are you sure its gtalk? I don't even have that installed, plus I thought that was an IM/video talk type app.

my running google services are "cloud to device messaging", google messaging service" and "google services"

Restarting the phone and clearing the Gmail cache seem to have cleared it (sent a couple of test emails, phone has got them within a few minutes).

Cheers guys.
