Phone sockets for DSL problems?

Here is the background:

- I have 4 phone sockets in my flat and 2 of them don't work with my router/modem.
- I'm on Talktalk
- The main socket going into the flat works fine
- The 2nd socket that works seems to be slower (based on speedtest.net)
- The other two sockets, I have been told work with the landline, but my router/modem doesn't work with it. I don't have an actual phone to test, but will get one this weekend.

My question is whether this is normal that some phone line sockets may not work with DSL and that there are speed issues for another socket.

It is a new build flat, so just want to know whether this is normal or whether I should ask for this to be fixed so that DSL works with all sockets and with a consistent speed. Is this a wiring issue?

Thanks in advance!

It will be a wiring issue. Once you have a phone to test them with this weekend, let us know the results of that.

As long as the main master socket works with no issues, then its an internal wiring issue. If you are able to ask the builders to fix them, then happy days :)

My last place the only socket that worked with the internet was the main socket. All the additional sockets in other rooms didn't. Though they worked fine with the phone.

probably cheap craptastic sockets and uberly poor quality wiring.

I had the same problem in my house and ended up having to rewire from the main socket thorughout the whole house as the orginal cabling speced by the builders was not fit to tie my bin bags with. Also they sockets they installed were like 99p jobs from a carboot sale and they didn't even terminate the wiring properly into the sockets so the signal loss and noise was ghastly.

Thanks guys for the advice, I guess given phone lines are not digital signals, you do need to use higher quality wiring in order to get a high enough quality transmission to get DSL?
