Hi All,

I'm pretty out of touch with the world of mobile phones these days.

I currently have an iPhone 4S, and am due an upgrade from my contract.

I've had it for two years and has been a great phone, still is to be fair. There is nothing actually wrong with it... but who doesn't like new gear, right?

Unlike most, I have no loyalty to Apple, though the obvious route is to go with the iPhone 5S.

So I'm asking, what are the latest and greatest phones on the market at the moment? 4G Preferable. (currently on Orange, or EE... whatever it is!)

Shout if you need any more info!

Cheers,

It's new iteration time so expect new flagships from Sony, HTC, Samsung and LG over the next 16 weeks then after summer the Note, because of the timetable nature all of last years flagships can be had on cheaper contracts or for less than £400.

If I had to buy a phone now, it'd be the 5S. You might prefer an Android phone but you might not, see if you can try one.

Thanks so far guys. my colleague has the 5 and it looks really nice, don't know many people that have android phones but I should really give it a go! Time to go hunting around the office! :D

I have the 5, and in all honesty it's going to go when my contract runs out. Been an iPhone user for a while, previously had the 4, and you will notice a nice change going to the 5 but the OS is getting flat (not pun intended) for me now. Due to the usual reasons, so i'll be off to Android when i can.

Even, you know, after doing the thing with the iPhone.

Ended up going with the iPhone 5s. Mainly because its familiar. I know it will be decent and retard friendly (I'm useless at phones), and all my apps will be transferable!

.... and for some weird reason Orange gave me an iPad Mini for free... not complaining mind!

Thanks for everybody's help btw :)

The 5s is a very solid handset, one of the quickest shooters out there with it's camera and when iOS 7.1 comes out it will be even better :)

Which colour did you go for?

Nice choice, I'm sure you'll like it. I do think the 5 and 5S are great improvements over the 4S, mainly due to the screen size.

Went for the Gold, fancied a change from the black/slate

Networks use the word "free" in a pretty loose way. How much are you paying per month?

Nobody gives you an ipad for free. You'll be paying for it over the course of your new contract ;)

Only £50, and my last contact was £45, so £5 more I guess...

But then again i've gone from a 3G 1GB package to a 4G 5GB package...

Paid £58 upfront too mind, but I'm pretty sure I had to do the same when I upgraded to my 4S a while ago.

It's not that bad of a deal, assuming the 5S is 16GB then it's £549 by itself, not £300. Tablet depends on spec and if it's the new retina mini, but assuming it is, that's £320.

4G 5GB data contract deals and so forth aren't exactly cheap either.

It ain't £549 to EE, and the tablet probably cost them just over £220 or so.

It's a terrible deal! I suspect it was designed to lock people into the Apple ecosystem which is nigh on impossible to get out of.

It's £549 from Apple and the networks usually charge even more. That is the retail value of the phone. Direct deals from the likes of EE are never great, ones involving the iPhone even less so.

He could go with Three for a better deal, but maybe their coverage sucks for him? Many factors.

"Only £50" May I ask, are you American?

Your contact is £1200.
Iphone 5s 16gb = £550 from Apple
EE 5GB sim only = £21 x 24 = £500 (I'm guessing you're with ee*)

No wonder they gave you a "free" ipad.

* you can get unlimited data for £13/month from 3...

Yeah its the 5s, and iPad mini retina.

My family have had many problems with 3 with coverage etc, and since we have moved house my mum doesn't get any coverage in our house. thus pointless for me.

I've been with Orange.. or EE now since I can remember! so have no reason to change really... coverage is good wherever I go, I rarely get signal drops. In fact the only place I've found I can't get signal is Ikea in Wednesbury ^^

Still don't think its that bad of a deal tbh, considering I was paying £45 before. Unlimited texts & calls with the increased data seems alright.

EDIT: Also, not American.
