A couple of weeks ago i purchased a HTC Sensation XE off gumtree it came with a Check Mend report saying it was not blocked/stolen. All was fine until the other day when my sim didn't work. I did another Check Mend report and now it reports that it has been blocked. Is there anything i can do? I still have the texts as proof she sold it me as well as her address.

Unless you own the contract - no. It was likely stolen that day or she was behind on the contract etc etc...

But surely as i have her address and proof she sold it me , can i not contact the police in regards to fraud / maybe insurance fraud/ handling stolen goods. Or small claims court?

Sure you could try. I'd take a heavy set friend with you. For what it's worth, never ever buy phones on Gumtree unless you see this as an acceptable risk. At least ebay has some protection :/

I have text the woman and she has text back saying " turn the phone off for 30mins , turn it back on and you will receive a message , delete the message and turn the phone off and on again " I'm not sure if she has phoned up orange to have it unblocked after mysteriously finding her phone again or what.

Sounds like she tried the old "my phone got lost on a train/bus/elephant" trick to her phone insurance company and it's been blocked but now has magically found it again.

She says she has phoned them to have it unblocked. But it has still not worked. Could this be because its a orange phone and i had it unlocked to o2. Could i of lost the Unlock?

Phone up Orange with the IMEI (go into the dialer, type *#06# - imei will be displayed) and ask for a blacklist check. They will do this for you without it being a drama and you'll know if she's lying to you.

I'll be honest, I don't deal with blocked phones a lot of the time in testing (it would be bad for business ;) ) but basically the blacklist block in the UK is IMEI blocking via shared register. They will show up as "no signal" because basically the network knows the phones are nicked (it checked when you tried to connect to any UK network) and basically sticks it's fingers up to the SIM Card and says get lost but I won't tell you why.

Sounds like you're able to let her know that you have enough evidence that the phone was blocked by her and that you're prepared to get the police involved. I'd set getting your money back as a priority.

Well , the phone has been unblocked , threatning her with the police was enough. I've saved her details incase she trys it again although I doubt she will.

Good. Hopefully she won't now get a new one for nothing from her insurance company!

If she paid the bill for a month it would unlock too, just saying. Hope it works out OK for you though.

the only time the phone is blocked is when the phone is reported as lost or stolen
the networks cant use the shared register for non payment
