What printer should I go for, for photo printing?

I been looking at a Canon 4500IP and wonder if that a good choice as someone mention going for a epson but which epson is the case.

Regards

Got a Pixma 4300. Cant fault it.
Using Canon inks on Ilford paper gives cracking prints.
Pretty frugal on ink use as well.
Prints to CD/DVD's and does duplex printing as well.

I've got a Canon i865 - a predecessor to the Pixma, and after 3 years of doing nearly daily print outs a lot of them full A4's I've worn the head out on it :)

Amazing printers, really can't go wrong...my problem is I now need a new one and I'm looking at the 9000....:( my bank account is gonna cry! :p

Are cartridges expensive thou?

I too am looking for a decent printer - since i keep killing epson R series :(

and theres only a black and white one, or are their multiple coulur ones
like the epsons?

If its £8 for a colour and £8 for Black then yeah thats not expensive :)

There is 5 carts in a IP4300, A black text cart, and 4 colour carts, black, yellow, cyan and magenta.
£8 each is pretty good value since they last a fair while.
I wont use compatibles any more after having too much trouble them.

Yea was just googling and found out the same.

I may use some vouchers i have and get one bought.

Think ill try the compats before spending £40 on carts ;)

Canon Pixma range is definately the way forward. I use an IP3000, IX4000 and IP6700D and they are all great. Much prefer them to Epsons I have used.

My HP suffers really badly with ink drying out in the heads if I don't use it for a while, this is a real pain does anyone know if the canons are any better if left unsed for a month or so?

I use my IP3000 very erratically, sometimes leaving it for months without printing and I haven't noticed any adverse effects.

It killed my old epson dead leaving it for 3 months, at least with the HP the print heads change with the cartridge so you can get it going again.

Might investigate these Canons a bit further the Pixma 4300 is very well priced if it gives decent results. I don't print stuff very often but when I do I tend to get it wrong first time which is a real pain when your sending them away on the Net!

Just been on the phone to Canon after my MP600 print head failing.

Only had it since last June and not used it heavily. :/

Doesn't really matter though, as they're sending a new print head out on next day delivery after confirming the fault and checking proof of purchase. :)

I'd definately recommend Canon though. Fantastic prints, both on paper and CD/DVD. Fast and doesn't seem to use that much ink.

Not had any problems with patchy printouts etc. like I did with my previous Epson and before that Lexmark.

Also, as I found out this morning, the customer service is very good. :)
