I'm hoping that some folks here might be able to help. I'm try to source a photographer or some images that I can use in some band artwork.

The band don't have any money for images but will credit photographers in the artwork and can sort out a CD or Vinyl copy of the album to the photographer by means of payment for images used.

So, is anyone here coast based or have some really moody pictures of the coast they could link me to?

I have an exact idea of the sort of shots that I'm after, very similar in composition and tone to the shots used in this video:

Thanks in advance.

Very generous of them for giving their music away for free, although I guess they are doing it so they can get credit as well?

I'll have half a dozen copies of their CD please. :)

That's not their music video... That is an example of what they want. Blimey you lot, is my post really that unclear?
The problem you have is a professional tog (anyone charging money for their services) will by-enlarge not want to give things away for free for credit. It devalues an already devalued industry. The best hope is either a very generous sympathy soul (gauge the replies so far ;)) or a hobbyist who is just happy for credit.

I fully appreciate this, if I had money to pay someone then I would. I'm hoping a generous person might be able to help in some way.

Why should the photographer give their image away for free to be put on an album cover that another creative group are making money from?

If the band don't have any money then I'd be perfectly willing to provide an image(s) for free in return for say 10% of any profits made on the sale of anything with the image on?

If they can afford to own guitars, instruments, amps, to be able to afford to rent a sound studio, and then pay to get CDs produced they can damn well afford to pay a fellow artist the going rate.

If the band is any good then they can play in some bars and get a few hundred quid to pay for a cover photo.

Not going to go into the whole debate, but when you said

will credit photographers in the artwork

that is a legal requirement anyway, failing to do so would break copyright laws, so not really an incentive as such.

If a percentage based calculation was used, there would need to be an agreement every year or so with said photographer to tell how many copies had sold and pay agreed sum. Knowing what I know about the industry, however you look at wanting to make money from this, we're talking about small figures here. Maybe a couple of quid every year. Seriously.

You'd probably be better off taking a vinyl and selling it on.

On the contrary if they own guitars, instruments, amps, pay to rent a studio then they're probably skint. ;)

What would you say the current going rate is per photo?

Then as I said, they can play in some bars.
I have several friends in bands and they all make a couple of hundred in a local bar.

Depends if they wont a bespoke photo, perhaps with the band, or some generic photo. Visit a stock photo agency like Getty/Corbis/Alamy etc to find good stock images, read the terms and conditions.

If you want a bespoke photo then the link john_s provided gives you an idea

And in a similar vein:

Camera - £1000
Lens -£500
Tripod -£200
Filters - £200
Spare batteries and accessories - £200
Camera bag - £100
Computer to process images - £1000 (conservative)
Travel costs - £200

Yet we should give something we spent that much on to get away for free?

You use your kit I would assume, for business.

The band is not a business, it is not the members primary source of income and likely never will be. It is an artistic venture not a monetary one.

I was asking for a generous artistic contribution if anyone felt inclined.
