I was combining +/- 2 exposure shots today and being relativity new to this HDR lark I messed up - although I don't know how . All I did was use tone compressing to help bring out the details in an image and this happened to the sky

Any idea how (other than cut&paste) can I sort this out? What did I do wrong?

Looks to me like there is no highlight information in any of your original images and the tone mapping is trying to put some back into the extreme, blown, highlights (as a uniform grey). To make this area white again you need to adjust the highlight clipping. In order to take full advantage of HDR processing you need to make sure your bracketed orginals cover the whole range of exposures needed :)

Well like I said I had exposure bracketing on @ 2 stops either side. The sky would never look good anyway in the shot as it was 100% overcast. I'll have a play with the clipping and see what happens.

That sometimes isn't enough. Or you might need to alter the exposure compensation of the 'balanced' shot in the first place then bracket around that.
